QUALIFICATIONS: There are a very limited number of individuals in the US who actually have experience in the lampworking field, so we do not require interested applicants to have a background working with glass; however, an ideal candidate must have a strong background performing intricate detailed work on the job or as a hobby which requires them to work with their hands for long periods of time (e.g., sculpture, pottery, painting, drawing, welding, jewelry repair, etc.) DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: Our highly skilled staff of veteran glass artists will personally tutor all new artists. Upon satisfactorily completing the standard requirements necessary to complete the introductory lampworking course, the candidate is signed on as an independently contracted glass artist. The initial lampworking course lasts from 2 to 4 weeks on average. We have had some of the more talented artists finish the course in less than a week, but this is typically a rare occurrence. In order for Glassbaker to even consider bringing an interested applicant in for training, he or she must be able to attend training sessions for at least 30-40 hours a week until the respective lampworking course requirements have been been satisfactorily completed. Classes are held in our Marietta studio, near the intersection of Shallowford Rd and Canton Highway. Dedicating as many hours as possible in a given week to the introductory class sessions is highly recommended and extremely beneficial for any new artist, because it increases their chances of acquiring the technique(s) in a shorter amount of time. Typically, income during the introductory course will be low; however, during this time the artists will be compensated for any and all charms created that meet our quality standards. Once the initial lampwork course is complete, artists are given the opportunity to work from home; however, artists should anticipate coming back back in for additional tutoring sessions every couple of weeks, to learn new designs and strengthen their skills as a glass artist. All glass artists are expected to work 40 hours a week making charms; however, since all glass artists work from home, our expectations and evaluative criteria are not set upon hours. Evaluative criteria is instead based upon the progression the artist makes in their first few months, as well as the number of beads (charms) they produce each week. After the introductory training and first few months working from home, artists are expected to consistently produce at least 500+ glass beads (charms) a week. Learning the essential techniques used in creating our wonderful products requires a lot of patience and time on your behalf. The reward of an artist’s hard work and perseverance through the initial lampworking course begins as soon as they meet our standard & quality requirements and have begun producing quality glass beads.
