I said there was never a soveriegn nation of Palestine with a palestinian culture or history. The land was dubbed palestine by the ottoman turks and the romans. It was Hamas and Fatah, who ar the aggressors. Isarel honored it's settlement freeze until the barraige of quassam rockets became too much. Perhaps the road map to peace should be to force Egypt and Jordan to section off land that was historicly "Palestine" and creat a third nation amongst it. After all, they recieved 70% of the former palestine, and could help act as both defender and buffer for palestinians in the quest for peace in that part of the middle east. Once again, Allan Grayson proved himself to be little more than a broken spin doctor. While speaking before congress, Allan tried to say that the reason to pull all troops out of Aghanistan, is because we won. In fact, he said we won 3 months after it started. Does Mr Grayson reaaly believe that? But he did not mention it as a wain for Bush, or Iraq, which he also stated we won. As soon as we arrested Sadam, we should have left. Evidently Mr Grayson has no clue about how the world works, when it works. We left Afghanistsn defenseless and vulnerable when we helped them oust the soviets. A commont talking point amongst the left when discussing history and how we created the taliban. Is he seriously now suggesting that we should repeat that mistake in two countries? We did win in Iraq, and last weeks elections proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. And for all the small minded nay-sayers who felt that even though we should have never put Sadam in power ( which is a view I still find questionable) he was a necesary evil thwarting Iran, and controling warring muslim factions. here is an article that helps to debunk that method of thinking.

Did the fall of Saddam Hussein and the violent birth of Iraqi democracy really empower Iran?

That conventional wisdom might have been true in the shorter term during the chaotic Iraqi insurrection, but it was never an accurate assessment over the longer haul — as we are beginning to see, nearly seven years after the Iraq War began.

In the last twelve months, mass civil disobedience has spread throughout Iran, most notably when nearly a million people hit the streets to protest last summer’s rigged elections. There is unrest in Iraq as well, and a myriad of conflicting interests, but note that the tension is of a completely opposite sort. Whereas in Iran an unpopular government uses violence to squelch a majority that seeks free elections, in Iraq a legitimately elected government enjoys public support against occasional attacks from small cadres of terrorist extremists. So in an Iran supposedly at peace, more died voting than in an Iraq purportedly at war.

The use of Saddam Hussein as a proper balance to Iran was always an atrocious idea — and it is bizarre to hear critics of the war cite post facto his obscene government as a once-necessary check on the Iranian theocracy. Given Saddam’s genocidal policies, and America’s war against him in 1990–91, there was no way that the United States should ever again have used his dictatorship to thwart Iran’s. And while the present democratic government of Iraq is dominated by Shiites — logically, given demographic realities — it is not true that they are all pro-Iranian Muslims who have forfeited their Iraqi identities. In time, a stable democratic Iraq may be one of the very few mechanisms by which Iranian regional influence can be checked.

That is why Iran for the last five years has done its best to destroy Iraqi democracy, by supplying money and weapons to cross-border terrorists. Yet Iraq has survived, and it is now slowly proving subversive to Iran, albeit in quite a different manner — by reminding Iran’s uneasy Shiite population that free elections are not incompatible with their religion, as they can now readily see from the free, uncensored media across the border. The percentage of Iraqis who turned out for this round of voting was greater than the percentage of Americans who turned out for our landmark election of 2008.

As a result of Saddam’s removal, and the success of the subsequent democracy, Iran is looking not just at a free Iraq, but also at a semi-autonomous, prosperous, and pro-Western Kurdistan, and a Lebanon without Syrian occupation troops. In the short term, Iran must also weigh in the fact that there are hundreds of American aircraft just across the border in Iraq — basing that would have been impossible under Saddam. And whereas a few years ago Iran was threatening Israel, hand in glove with Saddam Hussein, who was subsidizing the families of suicide bombers on the West Bank, today Iraq is not fueling unrest in the Middle East. If anything it may be, along with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, secretly not upset that Israel might address the ominous Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iraq last month also achieved its highest level of oil exportation since Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990. And with the latest round of auctions and the new transparent oil contracts, the Iraqis are hoping to reach an incredible figure of 10 million barrels of oil pumped per day within seven years.

Given international interest in Iraq’s oil, competitive bidding, and the growing security in the country at large, Iraq might well come close to meeting such once unimaginable goals. If it were to pump another seven or eight million barrels per day, such a spike in production by the nation with the third largest known oil reserves in the world would work to moderate oil prices for years — and thus especially irk Iran.

The remainder of this article can be read at NRO.

A day after Republicans on Capitol Hill said they were "deeply concerned" over news that, during his confirmation process, Attorney General Eric Holder failed to disclose work on a terrorism-related legal brief, the Justice Department revealed Friday that the problem was wider than previously known.

"It has come to our attention that some but not all briefs submitted to the Supreme Court by or on behalf of Attorney General Holder … [were supplied] in the course of his confirmation process last year," Assistant Attorney General Ron Weich said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which vets judicial nominees. "We regret the omission."

The letter was accompanied by six more recently-identified briefs, only one of which was filed in a terrorism-related case.

Some Republicans were blunt in their criticism Thursday after revelations that a single terrorism-related brief had been omitted from Holder's response to a Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire last year.

"Are we expected to believe that then-nominee Holder, with only a handful of Supreme Court briefs to his name, forgot about his role in one of this country’s most publicized terrorism cases?" asked Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. "To me that strains credulity."

A Justice Department spokeswoman said the seven briefs were "inadvertently not supplied to the committee."

On Wednesday, as reports of the first-known omission began to emerge, a Justice Department spokesman offered more details.

"In preparing thousands of pages for submission, it was unfortunately and inadvertently missed," Matt Miller said in a statement. "In any event, the attorney general has publicly discussed his positions on detention policy on many occasions, including at his confirmation hearing."

In fact, Holder discussed the issue at length during his confirmation hearings in January 2009, promising to fight terrorism "within the letter and the spirit of the Constitution."

"Adherence to the rule of law strengthens security by depriving terrorist organizations of their prime recruiting tools," he said. "America must remain a beacon to the world. We will lead by strength. We will lead by wisdom. And we will lead by example."

In addition, during those hearings, Holder and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., discussed future decisions over the "form to try people and how to interrogate them," as Graham put it.

Still, the two terrorism-related "amicus briefs" filed with the Supreme Court in 2004 and 2005 resonate years later as Holder finds himself defending the handling of some recent terrorism cases, particularly the interrogation of alleged "Christmas Day bomber" Umar F. Abdulmutallab.

The briefs -- signed by Holder, former Attorney General Janet Reno and other Clinton-era officials -- argued that the president lacked authority to hold Jose Padilla, a U.S citizen declared an "enemy combatant," indefinitely without charge.

In making their case, Holder and the others insisted that using federal courts to fight terrorism, which includes providing Miranda rights to terror suspects, would not "impair" the government's ability to obtain intelligence, which they called "the primary tool for preventing terrorist attacks."

"Many terrorists who have been arrested and provided counsel have decided to cooperate and provide valuable information to the government," the 2004 brief said. "Over the last decade, the investigative, detention, and prosecutive authorities (of the federal court system) have been used in many cases not only to identify, arrest, and punish persons who have committed terrorist acts, but to disrupt and thwart terrorism before it can occur."

But the brief did acknowledge a possible risk in such use of the federal court system -- a risk, the brief said, that is outweighed by the advantages.

"It may be true that in some cases the government will not be able to obtain information from citizens who are informed of their right to counsel, or that obtaining that information may be delayed," the brief said, noting that a lower federal court characterized such a scenario as speculative. "But this is an inherent consequence of the limitation of executive power. No doubt many other steps could be taken that would increase our security, and could enable us to prevent terrorist attacks that might otherwise occur. But our nation has always been prepared to accept some risk as the price of guaranteeing that the executive does not have arbitrary power to imprison citizens."

That assertion does not reflect the same level of certainty that Holder has expressed recently about the ability of the federal court system to obtain intelligence and fight terrorism.

"I am confident that … the decision to address Mr. Abdulmutallab's actions through our criminal justice system has not, and will not, compromise our ability to obtain information needed to detect and prevent future attacks," Holder said in a Feb. 3 letter to lawmakers. "Neither advising Abdulmutallab of his Miranda rights nor granting him access to counsel prevents us from obtaining intelligence from him."

Holder recently said Abdulmutallab has been providing "very useful" information to counterterrorism officials after being persuaded to cooperate with authorities.

After President Obama nominated Holder to be attorney general, the Senate Judiciary Committee sent Holder a 47-page questionnaire, including a request for any briefs he had filed with the Supreme Court "in connection with your practice."

In response, Holder said he participated in a total of five such briefs, none of which dealt with terrorism-related issues. He signed a statement saying the information he provided was accurate and complete "to the best of my knowledge."

But it turns out Holder participated in at least 12 briefs filed with the Supreme Court, two of which dealt with terrorism-related issues.

"It is simply unacceptable that briefs in such significant cases were not provided to the Committee so that they could be discussed during his confirmation hearings," said a spokesman for Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, adding that the omissions will be "a significant issue" when Holder appears before the committee on Mar. 23.

Nevertheless, Miller suggested Holder has always been open about his views on fighting terrorism.

"The attorney general has said many times publicly (that) the government has ample lawful ability to detain and interrogate terrorists and disrupt attacks without resorting to making claims of executive power that strain the Constitution," Miller said.

In fact, in Holder's response to the Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire, he listed a number of speeches in which he strongly condemned the Bush administration's tactics against terrorism and promised a new way forward.

"Unfortunately, in the last few years we have lost our way, with respect to our commitment to the Constitution and to the rule of law," he told a left-leaning crowd at the 2008 American Constitution Society conference in Washington, D.C., an event noted in Holder's questionnaire. "The rule of law is not, as some have seen it, an obstacle to be overcome. ... As Americans, we should bring people to justice and not hide them away from justice."

Holder's remarks from that event became the centerpiece of a recent ad from the conservative group Keep America Safe, questioning Holder's decision to hire lawyers who previously represented or advocated for detainees at Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere.

DEMS ABANDON ABORTION DEAL, READY HEALTH VOTE

AP

WASHINGTON -- House Democratic leaders Thursday abandoned a long struggle to strike a compromise on abortion in their ranks, gambling that they can secure the support for President Barack Obama's sweeping health care legislation with showdown votes looming as early as next week.

In doing so, they are all but counting out a small but potentially decisive group whose views on abortion coverage have become the principal hang-up for Democrats fighting to achieve the biggest change in American health care in generations. Congressional leaders are hoping they can find enough support from other wavering Democrats to pass legislation that only cleared the House by five votes in an earlier incarnation.

The concession came as House Democrats attended a lengthy meeting with White House health adviser Nancy Ann DeParle, who tried to answer questions, resolve differences and calm nerves, especially for lawmakers expecting tough challenges in November. Participants said they generally embraced White House-brokered compromises on prescription drug benefits for the elderly and new taxes on generous insurance plans.

At stake is the president's call to expand health care to some 30 million people who lack insurance and to prohibit insurance company practices such as denying coverage to people who have been sick. Almost every American would be affected by the legislation, which would change the ways many people receive and pay for health care, from the most routine checkup to the most expensive, lifesaving treatment. And most Americans would be required by law to get health insurance.

Republicans continued their fierce criticisms of the president's efforts, vowing to make Democrats pay dearly in the fall elections if they don't back off from what they brand a government takeover of health care. But senior Democrats predicted they can convince their colleagues that doing nothing is the worst option of all, politically and substantively.

"The stars are aligning for victory on comprehensive health reform," said Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel emerged from a meeting in the Capitol with top Democratic lawmakers Thursday night saying, "We made a lot of decisions. We're getting towards the end."

The end might be near, but the outcome remains uncertain. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., must round up at least 216 votes when the real nose-counting and arm-twisting begin in a few days, after final cost estimates arrive from the Congressional Budget Office. All House and Senate Republicans have vowed to oppose the legislation.

With Senate Democrats no longer able to block Republican filibusters, the strategy calls for House Democrats to embrace a health bill the Senate passed in December, despite their numerous objections. Democratic senators in turn would promise to make a limited number of changes under "budget reconciliation" rules, which bar filibusters.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers quarreled Thursday over whether Obama must sign the Senate bill into law before Congress can make the changes, which Democrats see as crucial to making the overall package more politically palatable. Republicans plan to pounce on Democrats the instant the Senate bill becomes law, and House and Senate parliamentarians eventually may have to determine the allowable sequence of legislative actions.

Congressional Democrats appeared to agree with the White House on Thursday on a handful of issues. One would close a coverage gap in the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the so-called doughnut hole that has caused financial and emotional stress for numerous elderly Americans.

Another would impose a new excise tax, starting in 2018, on employer-provided health plans worth more than $10,200 for individuals and $27,500 for families. The Senate had wanted a stiffer tax on such "Cadillac plans," but the more labor-friendly House resisted.

Obama tried to soothe the feelings of two generally liberal constituencies -- Congress's black and Hispanic caucuses -- in separate White House meetings Thursday. Some black lawmakers say the health legislation doesn't do enough to help poor people. Many Hispanic members say it mistreats illegal immigrants trying to buy insurance with their own money.

One of the toughest hurdles facing Pelosi involves abortion. Some anti-abortion Democrats say the Senate language is not sufficiently airtight to prevent taxpayer dollars from mingling with money that might be used to subsidize abortions.

Others disagree, and party leaders acknowledged Thursday they can't resolve the dispute using budget reconciliation rules. Instead they hope that only a few House Democrats who voted for the health care package in November will now switch to "no" because of the abortion issue. Party leaders think they can offset those defections by persuading some of the 39 House Democrats who voted "no" last year to switch to "yes."

Many House Democrats who oppose legalized abortion "are either satisfied enough with the Senate provision, or they decide that that's as much as they're going to get and they don't want to defeat health care," said Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer concurred with Waxman's comments.

Even if Pelosi and her allies can eke out a House victory, Senate Republicans are vowing to use almost every delaying tactic they can to slow final passage of the entire Democratic package, even if they're unable to kill it.

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., promised a sentence-by-sentence examination of the proposals, and scores of challenges. There will be "a lot of very tough votes on this bill," he said.

The White House seemed to back away from its earlier insistence that Congress act by March 18. "If it takes a couple extra days after a year" of struggles, presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday, then "it takes a couple extra days."

Gibbs also said Obama was pushing the Senate to remove some of the special deals that remain in the legislation.

One, championed by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., would provide Medicare benefits to residents of tiny Libby, Mont., who suffer from asbestos-related illnesses from a now-closed mining operation. The other, sought by Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., could spend $100 million to build a hospital at the University of Connecticut.

"We've made it clear to the Senate that the president's position in the final legislation should not contain provisions that favor a single state or a single district differently than others," Gibbs said.

The request drew a chilly response from senators. Jim Manley, spokesman for Reid, said the leader's office "appreciates the White House views, but no decisions have been made."

Democratic leaders must resolve several more issues before presenting a final package to their colleagues and the public. Lawmakers have not decided whether to attach an overhaul of the college student loan program to the health legislation. Nor have they settled on details for a higher Medicare tax on wealthy Americans, treatment of a dozen states that give their residents relatively generous Medicaid benefits and subsidies to help low-income people buy health insurance.

Dear feds: We loathe you. Please send money.
Posted by adn_jomalley

Posted: January 21, 2010 - 11:42 pm

Comments (255) | Recommend (116)

Like Gov. Sean Parnell and a number of Republican legislators down in Juneau, I'm SUPER mad about the federal government and its "war with Alaska's interests."

Memo to the feds: Get out of our lives! We don't need you and your socialist government programs! We're Alaskans! We know how to handle things on our own!

I mean, except for a few things. Or, maybe, like about $10 billion worth of things.

We want you out of our business, period. But could you, like, keep funding a third of all our jobs? You know, the Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, National Weather Service, Transportation Safety Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Veterans Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Forest Service, Indian Health Service, U.S. Postal Service and all the other federal agencies?

And also those billions in military spending and the housing and health grants to Alaska Native nonprofits? Keep all that coming. And the third of our governor's proposed state budget for 2011 (that's $2.8 billion) that comes from Washington. We'll need that. And the pool of bucks you give to our growing population of older residents in the form of Social Security checks. And the housing vouchers and public assistance and disability payments and the food stamps. It's not like we can afford to take care of our sick, poor, hungry and disabled without you. Plus, that's millions for our economy.

Ideologically speaking, we're opposed to government handouts. Haven't people heard of personal responsibility? Self-reliance? We don't believe in entitlements. Unless by entitlements you mean us feeling entitled to more federal money per capita than most anywhere else. In which case, it's cool. Or you mean PFD checks. But those are not entitlements. They are the payments we deserve and expect for being here and breathing.

Anyway, we'd also like our companies to keep getting federal contracts. And could you please continue to pay to get the mail to rural communities at a reduced price? And there's that little-over-a-billion in federal stimulus dollars. We'd like to keep that as well, but at the same time we're also going to complain about it. We hate bloated government spending! (But, since you insist, Nome wants a hospital. And we'd like the Glenn Highway to get resurfaced. Fairbanks wants its airport improvements. Juneau wants its buses. And we're counting on your help to fix the Tudor/Lake Otis intersection, OK? Waiting in that traffic is infuriating.)

You know another reason we hate the feds? Taxes. We don't pay much compared to just about every other state in the U.S. And for every dollar we do pay, we enjoy close to two dollars in government services in return (that's about $14,000 per person, also more than most everyone else in the country). It's a total redistribution of wealth and it works in our favor. It's helping us weather the recession. We'd thank you for that, federal government, except that would make us look bad.

See, we have fed-hating, tea-bag-waving constituents to pander to. There's populist anti-government rage out there, born of economic frustrations, short on specifics and fed by the right-wing media. We want to harness it. Who cares what the facts are?

So, sure, we'll take your money. But you better watch it with your Outside-y rules. How dare you insert yourself into our lives, telling us how to manage our land and our animals, like our threatened polar bears and endangered beluga whales? You say your policies rely on science? So do ours. Like the scientific findings of Rep. Don Young, who recently declared, in reference to endangered Cook Inlet beluga whale species: "I personally don't believe this is a different species of beluga whale (than those) in Kotzebue that we kill and eat many times up there ... I don't believe there's a bit of difference."

Take that, fancy guys with Ph.D.s who determined the Cook Inlet belugas were genetically different from those anywhere else. This is Alaska. Obama is calling for a final “50 plus 1” vote in "the next few weeks." And he wants citizens to "make their voice heard."

After spewing the longest string of lies we have heard to date on health care reform, President Obama threw down the grassroots gauntlet:

"I urge every American who supports this reform to make their voice heard. Make your voice heard."

Let Obama and Congress hear from EVERY American – whether they support healthcare reform or OPPOSE it!!

What is stated in the bills presently in the Senate and House versions, is NOT what the majority of Americans want. The Senate and House bills were put together and ‘agreed upon’ by the Dems as a result of the many ‘kickbacks’ and ‘sweetheart deals’ which many of our elected officials would receive by voting ‘Yea’. The American people are neither blind nor stupid.

Are you aware that the CBO report refutes the widely disseminated figure of 40 million uninsured; saying the number of Americans without health insurance for an entire year is more likely to be between 21 million and 31 million. How many in this range of uninsured do you think are counted as ‘illegal immigrants’? To be honest, it may very well be the majority of those who are uninsured.

Again, for this small number of people, our government wants to overhaul the entire health care system of 303,000,000+ American citizens, to accommodate a few million who are not even legally eligible or those who simply CHOOSE NOT to have health care coverage; but will still be fined/taxed!! Each taxpayer will be responsible to pay taxes (over an approximate 10-year period) for an amount of $1 TRILLION+ for this bill alone! Note however, that NO ONE will be able to reap any of the so-called ‘benefits’ for 2 to 5 years to come.

What is wrong with this picture?

Everyone CAN and MUST get involved, because quite frankly healthcare reform (as it stands now) is unconstitutional! **(See below) Please join over ONE MILLION people who have already signed our petition to Congress @ http://www.freeourhealthcarenow.com/ and http://www.freedomworks.org/ . Also, contact all of the ‘swing vote’ Democrats who can stop this legislation from passing at http://www.repealthebill.org/ . Keep your health care choices, decisions and care in YOUR hands, not in the hands of a government-run ‘health committee’.

Also, take into consideration that the bill presently in the Senate will cut $800 BILLION from Medicare. With the government NOT increasing Social Security payments this year, how will YOU pay for your parents or elderly family member’s health needs under Medicare??

Please call, fax or e-mail your Reps & Senators and tell them to vote “NO” on any government-run healthcare reform bill as now on the table:
http://www.senate.gov/ ; http://www.house.gov/ ; http://www.emailthepresident.com/ or http://www.whitehouse.gov. .

Together we, as Americans, can and MUST make a difference!! Please forward this information to everyone you know.

**Amendment 28 – Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

Again, it is illegal for our government to force ANY citizen to purchase any product, such as health insurance; or the government will impose fines/taxes if you choose not to have health insurance.

Yes, the French recruited some 350,000 african muslims to fight the Nazis. What is your point? There is no doubt that the world offcially recognises the role of the various non-white soldiers who fought in WW2. A visit to the Imperial war Museum will show anyone that. I attended a celebration in the late 1990's at the IWM where the exhibition was opened and Indian Army WW2 veterans (Muslim, Sikh & Hindu) were present. The exhibition has been on tour around the country in England
The Imperial armies did not fight in WW2 to save Engalnd or France. They fought to prevent the Axis powers from establishing fascist empires. The Indian Army fought mainly in Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Italy.
But what about the grand mufti Hussain who collaborated with the nazis and helped with the final solution ideas?
I also recognize that while many muslim countries fight against terrorism( Jordan and Egypt, as well as Turkey) they still have radical clerics within their own communities inciting religious intolerance and supporting terroroist jihad. This does not undo the fact that while most muslims do not support terrorism, none publicly denounce it either. And that most muslim countries where sharia law is present, refuse to accept Isarel as a soverign nation, even though there was never a nation of palestine, ever.
As far as you giving me the benefit of the doubt as to my service, I really do not care.

However, the army could be rebuilt only at the pace of the Allied (largely American) rearmament program. French desires (and demands) were consistently greater than Allied abilities (and willingness), and the rearmament program was a bureaucratic jungle which saw many partially formed French formations sacrificed and cannibalized. The program eventually produced eight very useful Allied divisions: 1st Free French and 2nd Armored (both with Gaullist lineage), 1st and 5th Armored, 2nd Moroccan, 3rd Algerian, 4th Moroccan Mountain, and 9th Colonial. These divisions served variously in Italy, France, and German

Excellent!!
It’s all supposed to be voluntary, those “home visits” that are tucked into the mammoth ObamaCare bill. If you have a strong stomach, and stronger bottom, you can find home visitation on pages 568-595. That’s Section 2951 of H.R. 3590, the Senate bill that Harry Reid brought down the chimney on Christmas Eve.

All voluntary, they say, but once you “volunteer” to have the oh-so-helpful folks from Social Services come in to help with your newborns, or with a number of other specified issues, will you ever be able to get rid of them?

The bill provides for federal funding and supervision for this vast expansion of government intrusion into family life. This is the Nanny State on steroids.

Is your family being “targeted” for such home visitations? Let’s see if you fit into one of these very broad categories:

• Families where Mom is not yet 21. (No mention here whether she is married or not.)
• Families where someone is a tobacco user. (Does this include the White House? Watch out, Sasha and Malia!) Does Grandpa, whom you love and have taken in, enjoy his after-dinner pipe?
• Families where children have low student achievement, developmental delays, or disabilities.

As if that list was not wide-ranging enough, here’s the net that can encompass tens of millions:

• Families with individuals who are serving or formerly served in the armed forces, including such families that have members of the armed forces who have had multiple deployments outside the United States. [Emphasis added.]

So, while Johnny gets his gun, the government steps in to “help” his family at home. Ronald Reagan used to say the most frightening words in the English language were these: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.

Who will sit atop the federal pyramid that runs this vast new invasion of family privacy? Why, it will be Sec. of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, of course. She was the most pro-abortion governor in American history when President Obama tapped her for his Cabinet.

Do you spank your children? You should know that HHS bureaucrats think you are an abuser.

Do you support the Second Amendment? How would you like HHS bureaucrats asking your children if you maintain firearms in the home for family protection?

Do you home school your kids? Take care. Members of Congress who have tried to abolish home schooling are big backers of this health care bill. Do you wonder why?

There are abundant reasons to oppose this health care bill. Conservative leader Gary Bauer cites the colorful words of Oklahoma Democratic Congressman, Dan Boren. Mr. Boren is one of the bluest of Blue Dogs. He says: “They can break my arms. They can do whatever they want to. They’ll never get my vote -- ever. They’ll have to walk across my dead body if they want my vote on this issue.” Boren spoke for many concerned Democrats when he said: “…there is no chance I am voting for this bill because it raises taxes on businesses, creates job-killing mandates, grows the size of government, and cuts services to seniors.”

All of this is true. But the White House is pulling out all the stops. One of their senior advisers told CNN’s Gloria Borger what President Obama’s people are telling wavering Democrats on Capitol Hill:

BORGER: Right. This isn't going to be subtle at all today. I think this is it. I was speaking with one senior White House adviser just before I came on the air, and he said, think of it this way. This is the last helicopter out of Saigon, OK?

Could anything be more bizarre? A senior member of the administration is comparing the President’s signature measure in Congress to the forced evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in South Vietnam in 1975.

Older Americans remember the shame and heartbreak of seeing thousands of America’s allies desperately clinging to U.S. Army helicopters as the North Vietnamese army closed in on South Vietnam’s capital city.

We don’t want to re-fight the Vietnam War, but it should not go without notice that the Democrats also controlled Capitol Hill back in 1975. The Democrats, led by Sen. Ted Kennedy and Minnesota Congressman Don Fraser, had cut off all the promised U.S. funding for the South Vietnamese armed forces that were trying to stave off a brutal Communist takeover of their country. And we’re told we have to pass ObamaCare as a tribute to Ted!

Is this the kind of hope and change Mr. Obama’s top advisers now want us to embrace? Are his own people thinking of this last-minute push as a debacle? Helicopters in Saigon. What a confused and confusing mess this is!

One thing is clear: For life and liberty, we must defeat ObamaCare. Call your U.S. Senators and Representatives now (202.224.3121). Tell them to vote NO on ObamaCare.

LaRose, who had called herself Jihad Jane in a YouTube video, had visited the area where he lives, but he did not know whether that was true. “I’m glad she didn’t kill me,” Mr Vilks said.

The artist, who has dishevelled hair and thick-lenses glasses, said his life was like the plot of a film. “It’s a good story,” he said. “It’s about the bad guys and a good guy, and they try to kill him,” he said.

“They have this woman also which I think is a good part of the plot with this fantastic name, ‘Jihad Jane’ who is actually doing some scouting there in the surroundings,” Mr Vilks added. “As I can see it, you have something of a film there. But as I said, I believe they’re a bit low-tech.”

Three leading Swedish newspapers and the national broadcaster today carried the notorious cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad with a dog's body.

The country's biggest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter said the threat to Mr Vilks was a threat against all Swedes

An editorial claimed that the recent axe attack on a Danish cartoonist for drawing the Prophet meant that Scandinavian values of openness were being assaulted.

The drawing by Mr Vilks was published in the Stockholm-based Dagens Nyheter and Expressen newspapers and the Malmo daily Sydsvenska Dagbladet in defence of one of the cornerstones of Sweden's constitution. This states that Swedes have the right to freedom of speech and cannot be restrained from the lawful expression of their views.

But the newspapers stopped short of running the controversial cartoon on their websites because of their wider accessibility around the world. Islam forbids representations being made of the Prophet.

"In September 2007, al-Qaeda leaders set a price on Swedish artist Lars Vilks’ head," said Dagens Nyheter in an editorial comment. His "alleged crime" was to draw a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad as a "roundabout dog", a type of street installation popular in Sweden where sculptures are often placed in the middle of roundabaouts.

Gunilla Herlitz, the Dagens Nyheter editor-in-chief, defended the re-printing of the cartoon as a legitimate part of the story of the day. "I believe that, in this case, the cartoon is a part of the news and therefore we would like to show the readers what this is all about. But the cartoon is published in a context and is not the leading picture on the page.

"In order not to increase the risk of separating the cartoon from the context it was not published on the newspaper's website. (To do) That could upset people without a reason. Also, a picture published online would be much more widely disseminated."
Ok, lets back up and take things a little different. I think you and I probably agree on about 90% of most topics based on what I have read in your posts over the last 6 months. I am not going to begin to believe i know nearly as much as you when it comes to Ron Paul and his ideas and beliefs, since I do not follow most of his work. We both believe in better nat'l security. We both believe in ending foreign bases across Europe( I think). We seem to mostly disagree on the policies concerning the middle esat, yet not the threat that exists. In regards to Iraq, I do not know beyond the media propaganda of how Sadam came to power, and unless you have top security clearance know one really knows except that he did stage a hostile take over and executed all current cabinet members who could potentialy defy him. According to Georges Sada, second in command of iraqi air force, there was no CIA involvement of the actual take over by the baathist party. Sadam was a sick, brutal, tyranical dictator who was responsible for multiple war crimes ( irregardless of who supplied dual use chemicals, no one ever said it was OK to use them), crimes against humanity, invasion of a peaceful country, mutiple resolutions violations, and failed to comply with cease-fire rules set forth by the United States via the UN. For 10 years we did nothing but negotite as he defied the world. The negotiations were about as useful as we are seeing in Iran. Since we imposed the resolutions, it was our responsibility to enforce them, and we did. A democratic Iraq , peace between Israel and Egypt, and Israel and Jordan, could begin to see changes evolve in the middle east. The fact that just last week Iraqis risked their own lives to go out and vote is a sure sign of their desire for democracy. Important to note that peace between Isarel and Egypt and Jordan were reached through land deals at high costs to Israel and Israeli security concessions, brokered through the US, and the first time in history land annexed through military wins was given back to the loser for peace agreements. As a result, the US continues to provide aid to all 3 countries. Isarel has weaned itself completely from economic aid, but still recieves military aid under the condition that all the money must be spent back on the purchase of US arms. We get all the money back in exchange for weapons and technology that Israel buys, which funds thousands of US jobs resulting in taxes which offsets a portion of the aid. In regards to Isarel, I would rather see that money diverted to our defense fund, inexchange for information, shared technology, and aid in the war on terror. As a tax payer I expect the country to uphold it's responsibility and provide for the common defense.
As far as palestinians walking away from the negotiating table, they have a perfect record. There attempt to broker peace came at a huge cost to Israel. Israel spent million and lost millions during troop withdrawls in gaza, removal of settlemets, and removal of defense systems. After they moved out, they paid the price in blood as palestinians took full advantge of being closer to isareli citizens and launched an unprecedented rocket attack for 2 years before Israel finally shut them down. History shows if Arabs laid down their arms, there would be peace, if Israelis laid down there arms, there would be genocide. Which do you support?

http://www.science.co.il/arab-israeli-conflict.asp

http://www.mideastweb.org/briefhistory-oslo.htm

Palestine walked away from an offering of 97% of west bank, all of gaza, their own airspace, and an approved right of return.

The result, the second intifadah.

On another note, the aid to Israel, is less than .057% of our budget.

Yes Friends, as I told you earlier Ron Mckinney and Robyn Mckinney were hiding in their home to avoid service of a Defamation Lawsuit. They would not answer when the Sheriff's Deputy came knocking on their door and they would not answer the door when I hired a private service company to attempt to serve them several times with the lawsuit. They were observed PEEKING OUT THE WINDOWS to see if it was safe to come outside.
We do not know if the McKinneys have dared set foot outside their home yet. However, we do know that an Order from the Superior Court of Gwinnett County filed May 11, 2009 found that that Ron and Robyn Mckinney have willfully and deliberately concealed themselves to avoid service.
Well, if you were a pro-se petitioner in Louisiana for the last 13 years, you knew that you wouldn’t win. Why is that? Because the Chief Judge of their Court of Appeals directed his clerk to summarily deny all appeals from pro-se petitioners without circulating the appeal to other judges.

The clerk, ridden with guilt, committed suicide earlier this year and left a note confessing everything.

This immoral and apparently illegal policy was in place until Jerrold Peterson, the staffer charged with implementing it, blew his brains out in May of last year. Peterson was driven to it in part, his suicide note suggested, by guilt over the nefarious tasks the judges made him perform.

In his note Peterson explained how the court gave indigent appellants the bum’s rush.

Although every criminal writ application is supposed to be reviewed by three judges, he was deputed to winnow out any that had been filed pro se and arrange for their automatic rejection.

Thus were an estimated 2,500 appeals deep-sixed without any judicial consideration whatsoever.

Now, facing public embarassment and possible ethical violations, the Louisiana Supreme Court has stepped in and asked…get this…the same appellate court to look at the appeals again. Note that they did not ask the Court to conduct an investigation into this practice, but simply to consider those appeals that were so summarily denied.

Because, if we placate the defendants with another cursory look at their appeals, we can sweep the ethical violations under the carpet.

At first this whole thing seemed rather odd to me. After all, how is this even possible? Here’s how:

Edward Dufresne, Chief Judge of the Fifth Circuit, took charge of pro se appeals in 1994. He then had Peterson prepare rulings denying writs for all of them and signed off “without so much as a glance,” according to the suicide note. “No judge ever saw the writ application before the ruling was prepared by me,” Peterson wrote in a second suicide note to the Judiciary Commission.

The rulings also bore the names, though not the signatures, of judges Marion Edwards and Wally Rothschild. Neither Edwards nor Rothschild had any clue as to what was in the applications, or even knew that they had been filed, according to Peterson.

So you’ve got one complicit judge and maybe three. But there are 5 more on that court. What of them? Are we to really believe that these 5 (or 7) other judges never once questioned the stark absence of pro-se appeals? Particularly in Louisiana, whose system has the following characteristics:

About 90 percent of criminal defendants in Louisiana are indigent.

Louisiana only provides post-conviction legal aid in death penalty cases. Everyone else must either hire a lawyer, find a lawyer to handle their case pro bono, or handle the appeal themselves. Obviously, most have no choice but to opt for the latter.

One criminal defense lawyer in Louisiana told me that if you’re convicted of murder in Louisiana and you’re innocent, you’re actually better off getting the death penalty. At least then you’ll get a team of lawyers, investigators, and experts to help with your appeal.

This from a state whose criminal justice system was already crumbling. It’s hard to believe that people such as Judge Dufresne take an oath to uphold the law and to prove equal protection under it. Disbarment may be enough, but only barely.

Justice delayed is no justice at all.

————————————————————————————————————————————
THE SMOKING GUN LINK TO AMERICA’S JUDICIAL INJUSTICES BEING INFLICTED ON POORER AMERICAN’S !

http://www.nola.com/timespic/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1223616107256210.xml&coll=1

LAWYERS FOR POOR AMERICANS IS A WWW LOBBY THAT SINGS OUT FOR MIDDLE CLASS AND WORKING POOR AMERICANS.WE CAN BE FOUND WITH ANY SEARCH ENGINE UNDER OUR NAME OR TELEPHONE NUMBER.(424-247-2013)

~WE ENJOY BRINGING THE GOOD LIFE TO ALL the little people of America ON THE WEB BECAUSE MOST POORER AMERICANS ARE LIVING THIRD WORLD LIFE~STYLES WITHOUT PROPER HEALTHCARE OR LEGAL CARE FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES !

WE ARE ALL VERY WELL AWARE THAT OUR U.S.WEALTHY ELITE BILLIONAIRES WHO CONTROL OUR U.S.CONGRESS THROUGH THEIR BIG $$ LOBBYISTS HAVE DECIDED THAT THE WORLD'S POOR SOMEHOW ARE MORE IMPORTANT TO ASSIST THEN THEIR OWN FELLOW AMERICANS.

THIS NEW WORLD ORDER MENTALITY BY OUR AMERICAN BILLIONAIRE CABAL NEEDS CHANGE ...

The relocation to the homeland that began in larger numbers in 1897 was due in part to British imperialism. The British already controlled a lot of the Middle East but then had it all by 1917 and the "Balfour Declaration of 1917". Without the British I don't know if the state of Israel would have been created.

I am guessing the AIPAC, John Hagee, jihad watch argument is that God tells us to protect Israel.

There are problems with that philosophy however.

1. Once Israel comes back into their country and Jews return to their homeland after a period of being exiled, there are no verses or prophesies that indicate that Israel will again be destroyed and the Jews exiled. There are however countless verses that indicate that God is Israels' protection.

2. Is it blasphemous to say we are doing the job God promised to do? Blasphemy is attributing to oneself the attributes of God, therefore this notion that the USA "protects" Israel is the biblical definition of blasphemy, and even the most devout Christians have been deceived into committing blasphemy by the global elites.

3. Even if God told many of us to protect Israel, is it right to use the government to do it? The government was meant to be used minimally and to establish a free republic. Freedom from totalitarian control by either church or state. Free to worship or support any group the individual desires.
Do you believe that the US has the right to force everyone to pay taxes to protect Israel? Clearly this is unconstitutional.
Nothing is stopping you from personally helping Israel. Everyone has the right to use the free market to send money to Israel, or buy a WASR-10 and a plane ticket!

Again, we are not against Israel.
We are against everyone's tax dollars going to foreign aid when individuals and non-profits can do the job.
If you believe that God wants you to support Israel then get out your checkbook and send them some cash. Just don't use the US to tax everyone and then try and justify the theft.
Thou Shalt not steal. Taxes are not voluntary and therefore not moral taking.

Israel can take care of itself and moreso if it has God's help. The "Six Day War" proved that.
If you feel it needs military help, let the private market contract their own military security force or weapons to sell to Israel.

Here's one private sector (I think) link to help Israel:
http://www.ifcj.org

Vote for Libertarians if you want real fair reform in the economy.
http://www.lp.org/news/press-releases/libertarians-criticize-cpac-conservatives

Thirty-three percent favored Democrats.

"The erosion since May is especially strong among women, and among independents, who now favor Republicans on this question by a 56 to 20 percent margin," the pollsters said in their findings.

A May 2009 survey by the pollsters found the public saw the Democratic and Republican parties as equally able to handle national security (41 percent trusted Democrats more, and 43 percent trusted Republicans more.) On conducting the war on terrorism, the two parties were tied at 41 percent.

The Democrats' gap on national security has widened on several other fronts:

• "Keeping America safe": Democrats now trail by 13 points (34 percent to 47 percent.) The gap was just 5 points in July 2008.

• "Ensuring a strong military": Democrats trail by 31 points (27 percent to 58 percent.)

• "Making America safer from nuclear threats": Democrats trail by 11 points (34 percent to 45 percent,) "despite the president's strong actions and speeches on steps to reduce nuclear dangers," the pollsters said.

The poll, conducted late last month, found "the administration's response to the Christmas Day terrorist attempt has contributed to the erosion."

"While public polling showed that initial approval of Obama's response was above 50 percent, two months of Republican criticism have taken a toll. Now a narrow 46 to 42 percent plurality of likely voters say they feel less confident about the administration's handling of national security because of how it responded to the incident," the pollsters said.

In addition, the detention of terrorist suspects and the Obama proposal to prosecute suspects in civil trials in New York City, which was later abandoned, also have taken a toll on the president's approval ratings.

"Whereas a majority of the public approves of the job President Obama is doing in most aspects of national security, a 51 to 44 percent majority of likely voters disapproves of his efforts on the prosecution and interrogation of terrorism suspects," the pollsters found.

Democracy Corps calls itself an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to making the government of the United States more responsive to the American people." Byron Wolf reports: President Obama and Democrats launched a campaign to vilify insurance companies in the final stretch of their health reform effort.

Republicans, meanwhile, pointed out that those very same insurance companies would get huge checks from the government if health reform is enacted.

“(Health Insurers) will keep on doing this for as long as they can get away with it. This is no secret,” the president said. “They're telling their investors this – ‘We are in the money. We are going to keep on making big profits even though a lot of folks are going to be put under hardship,’” the President told supporters at a stop in Pennsylvania today.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, meanwhile, wrote to insurance company executives demanding that they justify premium hikes.

Neither mentioned that the Senate health reform bill, which is the basis for Democrats' last best chance at comprehensive reform, would give the insurance companies millions of new customers required by law to buy health insurance. It would also require insurers to cover everyone, regardless of age, gender or pre-existing condition.

To help pay for the new insurance requirements the government would give to people money to buy insurance - $336 billion over the next ten years. That money, ultimately, would have to go to... drum roll... insurance companies.

People without employer-sponsored insurance who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid and less than about $88,000 for a family of four, would get tax credits to help them buy insurance on the open market. But the payment of the tax credits would be made, point out Republican researchers, directly to insurance companies. See page 37 here of the Senate Finance Committee's exhaustive explanation of the plan:

During the 2008 Presidential campaign, then-Senator Obama criticized a proposal by Sen. John McCain because it would send government help for people to buy insurance directly to insurance companies.

“But The New Tax Credit [For Health Insurance] He’s Proposing? That Wouldn’t Go To You. It Would Go Directly To Your Insurance Company – Not Your Bank Account," said Obama in October on the Campaign trail.

And yet that’s exactly what Democrats' proposal would do and why so many would prefer public insurance option to compete with the private market. Supporting the Senate bill will be tough for many liberal Democrats in the House.

To the Republicans’ (and Obama’s on the campaign trail) point about the payments going directly to insurance companies, remember that people with employer-sponsored insurance or current federal medical benefits do not usually get a separate check to buy insurance either. They pay premiums directly to the insurance company and so does their employer. The Senate proposal would create a similar relationship between people who don't have employer-based insurance and the government.

So why do Insurance companies, if they're set to receive more than $330 billion in government subsidies to insure people without insurance now oppose the Senate bill?

"Health plans proposed more than a year ago robust insurance market reforms and new consumer protections to guarantee coverage for pre-existing conditions. Much more needs to be done in the current legislation to address the skyrocketing cost of medical care, which is making health care coverage unaffordable for working families and small businesses," said Robert Zirkelbach, a spokesman from America's Health Insurance Plans, in a statement today.

He argued that health insurers should not be targeted by the President and their profits are lower by margin than other sectors in the health industry.

"For every dollar spent on health care in America, less than one penny goes towards health plan profits. The focus needs to be on the other 99 cents," he said.
You sked if the relocated jewish settlements prospered from good governing or US aid?

This question itself states how little you yourself know about the history of Israel and it's jewish inhabitants.

US aid to Israel did not start until after 1970 and the Yom -Kippur war. Jewish settlements began as early as the late 1800's. That is some 70-80 years without US aid. Israel was re-established in 1948, so almost 23 years with no US aid. The day was fulfillment of a prophetic utterance from Ezekial. It was God ordained, and our support may be the last hope of the hand of God still moving in our country. Read Ezekiel chapter 37, he is refering to the re-birth of Israel.
