There are 2 current male residents and 1 couple, all between 21-23, 2 of whom are currently attending a university. Neighborhood is super friendly and is very close by fire and police services. No tobacco smoking is allowed inside the house. There is currently one cat in the house, and other pets are allowed as long as they are house trained and well mannered. The house has a decent sized front, back, and side yard, but none of which are fenced in. We also have a very large back deck. Room itself is $280/month as described, and utilities run $80-$125 a month, depending on gas or A/C usage (summers and winters can get pricey).

As for the room, it is approximately 11'x13' and has a walk-in closet that is 8'x4'6". Room is not furnished, and has direct internet and cable lines (also have wireless internet setup). We currently have AT&T's Uverse service for our internet, and we have basic cable service. The bathroom is shared with one of the roommates. Oh, and a little note about our lifestyles: we are a group of college students, and enjoy having the occasional party and will sometimes stay up late hours with friends while enjoying music, movies, beer, etc.

1. HOME PARK - a residential neighborhood north of Georgia Tech. Home Park is a dimly lit and dark neighborhood with lots of trees and bushes and is mostly occupied by Georgia Tech international students on a budget and who generally aren't concerned about the crime because they don't have autos - or not nice ones - and don't have anything of value. (You can only bring so much from overseas).
<br>

The neighborhood newsletter dated Dec. 4, 2008 discussed the latest crime wave in Home Park: “This report is particularly scary. The usual car thefts & thefts from cars are bad enough, but the home invasion & burglaries, with doors kicked in, are particularly unsettling. I know these sorts of events have happened here before, but it seems more common now.”
<br>
<br>
One comment from a recent neighborhood newsletter: “My wife and I have been seeing evil looking dudes lingering throughout the neighborhood, However, I don’t think we should cower in our houses until things change. This climate of lawlessness could be seen coming for quite some time.”
<br>
<br>
And the police issued recent a alert on how to stay safe in Home Park including making sure that someone accompanies or watches you from the driveway to the front door. I guess if you are without a car you are really out of luck. A portion of the alert states: “Also, please have your family, friends, and neighbors to blow their horn when arriving. This allows us to watch for them until they arrive, inside, safely. Open the window dressings and hi-light them with a flash-light. Thus, the criminal element would be aware that someone is watching!”

Crime is so bad that the police warn you to not linger in the driveway or walk on the sidewalk at night. See the following, “ Furthermore, we have to minimize just visiting in the drive way, or sidewalks, at nights. I know that this is unfair, but the criminals are becoming more brazen and this is their method of attack. Patrols are not as common as they were in the past, as a result of furloughs.” I guess this means that if the police are recommending against hanging out in the driveway talking, then they are recommending against walking in the neighborhood. So if you don’t have a care, you are out of luck – the only option to get out of the neighborhood is to walk down those shadowy, dark streets and cross your fingers that the crack addict with the guns don’t see you.

<br>
It is ideal pickings for the crack addicted hoodlums on bicycles cruising late at night under the cover of the dimly lit streets and bushes and trees looking for copper, auto radios, anything in a car, and the watches and billfolds of drunk and sober pedestrians. Many of the back yards have no fences or negligible fences and the crackheads can move around and through the dark yards and backyards at will. And if the opportunity presents itself - climb into a back window or kick in a door. I've known more than one person who awoke and met an uninvited guest in his house.

<br>
The area is barely patrolled by the police - the transient nature of the neighborhood lacks sufficient political clout to get police to patrol as needed. Note the ritzy neighborhoods of Buckhead are not lacking for police protection. Also all the police in area seem to be over in the warehouse district - the mayor's pet redevelopment project. So in Home Park, car break-in's are frequent - not a place to park a nice car. House break-in's are not unusual and muggings, stick-up's, home invasions with guns, and rapes are reported from time to time. And it's not really convenient to public transportation because, from its heart, it still a hike to a main thoroughfare for public transportation. To any North-South bus connection it's a 30 minutes hike. If you live in the heart of Home Park a walk to a bus going East-West is still about 10, 15, or 20 minutes. You would think it is convenient and safe but is not.

The folks trying to sublet their rooms, houses, apartments are desperate. They know the truth. They know they wouldn't be there but for they made the mistake of signing a lease - they made the mistake they are trying to get you to make, assume it's okay because a lot of students already live there. But they won' tell you the truth about the crime or the utilities - which is another common lie. They cite utility bills from fall and spring when air conditioners are not in use. But to get and keep those poorly insulated early 20 th century houses cool in a hot Atlanta summer takes about three or four times the electricity they tell you.

Some of the hucksters trying to hoodwink you so they can get 2 or 3 months rent from you don't disclose the location is Home Park - they just use street names. Streets in Home Park include: Tumlin, McMillan, Center, Hemphill, Lynch, Curran, Ethel, State, Francis, Holly. Those streets are all in the middle of the LAWLESSNESS OF HOME PARK.

And CHOW BABY “Best in Atlanta” for a first date. Several interior decorating shops have been voted "best in Atlanta" but since I don't keep up with them, I cannot tell you which ones.

And if the neighborhood were not safe, all the above economic and social activity wouldn’t be happening. Real estate sells for $ 2.0 millions per acre - not exactly an indication of a crime ridden neighborhood. Though there are suburbanites who will be afraid at first glance - because they think criminals are oozing out of the old bricks of the warehouses because they don't look like suburbia.
