The Georgia Department of Human Services is helping youth aged 14-18 years allowing the teens to learn new skills, build strong work habits and earn summer income. Many men value their modesty and only want male nurses for intimate procedures. We are very concerned about many small towns in Georgia such as Blairsville, Toccoa, Cornelia, etc. that only have male ob/gyns at hospitals. We would like to work to encourage communities to hire more female ob/gyns so women who wish for only female ob/gyns can be guaranteed a female ob/gyn for the birth of her child. Patients' wishes are often ignored. We are working to start a non-profit organization, Medical Patient Modesty and we will need to raise a lot of money to get this started. <![CDATA[Do you know the reason why we cannot really comprehend what we are wasting in gas is there’s no perspective to compare it against? All you see it the needle in your gauge going up and down, but how could you really measure gas – in a way you can see where and when you need to improve? Try this to realize the true measure of the gasoline in you tank.…….Take a tall slim glass, and a short fat glass. Now fill both with what you think is the same amount of water. Don’t cheat. (If you really wanted to go overboard do it with a gas pump-but you’ll get a better idea with just water.) You weren’t able to match amounts were you? Do you know why? The human brain cannot grasp liquids in amounts……you have to put it into a different perspective to see it. And chances are the amount in the short fat glass…..that’s what you waste EVERY time you do one of these below. Now if you just poured the water down the sink – that is what you are doing with your gas by doing these below. Look at trains - I love this one, trains! Remember waiting on a train as a kid and you were taught to count the trains as it passed? I think we should be teaching to count the cars sitting and idling. I use in one major city (the ½ to one million mark) Where I work, is a crossing right next to a freeway access road. (7) Seven times a day there’s a train whistle. So, I got a map. There’s over 15 actual crossings – but 7 of them are four lane roads at the freeway. And when I am leaving at night I start timing the stops; they are 7-11 minutes per backup. I count the cars for all four lanes, there’s about 30-40 per stop. Then I watched other crossings ---same numbers! So, here’s how it looks for 1 ONE train in ONE (1) city 1 train X 30 cars X 7 crossings X 7 minutes = 1470 / 60 minutes in hour = 24.5 hours. So, in reality you could wake up in morning – immediately go start your car, get out – leave it on; go about your entire day, sleep, get back up, waste yet another ½ hours time, THEN go see if your car is still running. But there were SEVEN (7) trains a day…So, really it’s 7 train X 30 cars X 7 crossings X 7 minutes = 10290 / 60 minutes in hour = 171.5 hours. That’s a little more than your time in (1) one, month of work if your fulltime at 40 hours. It gets better. There’s trains in all 50 states, so you could average it out by 50 – BUT lets go smaller! There’s about 15 cities at this population mark. (Really 30) So, let’s use 15. 15 X 7 train X 30 cars X 7 crossings X 7 minutes = 154,350 / 60 minutes in hour = 2,572 hours. Now how much was your tax return this year? (mine was $2,900---only one paycheck more than the hours wasted) How much is a month’s pay? And remember these numbers are light. What happens at 40 cars? 15 city X 7 train X 40 cars X 7 crossings X 7 minutes = 205,800 / 60 minutes in hour = 3,430 hours / 24 hours in day = 142 days Just over 3 months. Every day, every day, we are doing this! Your few minutes when you encounter a train ???? matter! Shut off the engine. Look at ATM’s alone….Today I used one, it took me 92 seconds. (and I a quick just a withdraw) So, let’s use small numbers say there are 13 million cars on the road in the country everyday. Probably at least once a week all will stop at a bank and most use the ATM. But lets say only 20% stop to use the ATM, so that’s 2million 6 hundred thousand…and lets say half of those will use the walk up ATM. So, now were down to 1 million 3 hundred thousand that idled for the 1 ½ minute. 1,3 Million X 1.5 = 19,500,000 / by 60 minutes in a hour = 325,000 hours a day spent idling at the ATM. (And remember this is a low number.) Ok, that’s a really nice house. If you make $20 grand a year, that’s 16 years! If you make $40 grand a year, that’s 8 years! If you make $60 grand a year, that’s 5.4 years! If you make $100 grand a year, that’s 3 years! It’s worth it to shut it off. Ways U can maximize a gallon! → Waiting on a train? Turn the engine off. Your stuck 5/10 minutes anyway. And if your getting a citation? Your not going anywhere – ARE YOU? Turn off the engine. Avoid all drive thru’s of any kind…fast food, bank, ATM, pharmacy, even !funeral homes! , etc…park and walk it..consider it exercise, it gets you out of the 4/5/6 deep car idling line. Using the ATM takes about 3-5 minutes- why is your car on? Use the walkup ATM. →Concerts/plays/venues/fairs….take a bus to just to save, but if you drive – don’t sit in lot before & after with car on listening to radio AND after take your time 1) leaving the site just to get to your car and 2) in lot wait for traffic to clear. Or partying in your car with it on – at least turn it off. → When was the last time you saw a UPS truck running during a delivery? I never have. I think maybe they have figured out that the idling costs big time money. And there’s the theft issue. Me? I wish it was legal to relocate anyone’s car who idles, just to teach them a lesson. Rural mail delivery, why not park & walk those 20-40 boxes rather than idle inch by inch? Rental Cars? Why do taxis sit idling when waiting on a fare? At hotels in tourist destinations? At airports? Why don’t the cab companies clamp down on this? It’s income out the door! Turn key off as they inspect for prior damage and show you features. This takes up to 10 minutes, why waste the gas? Why are’nt parking security guards on bikes, golf carts, ATV. They go just as fast thru a lot and places a car cannot and take less fuel? Not to mention cost of vehicle, insurance, plates, and driver. Why do armor trucks idle at pickups? Yet, the delivery companies don’t!!? → Turn car off when waiting on a funeral procession, rural mail delivery that gets out of car, loading/unloading. Someone said leave copies at pump….altho email also, it’s faster & always there. And you can always post in church bulletins, employee bulletin boards, website blurbs, etc. I think places that service autos, ie insurance co, dealers, parts warehouse, etc. should keep a copy on their counters. Waiting AT the bus stop on kids? Turn the car off. If you do this 5 times (we know it’s 10) times a week for even 2 minutes a pop – you wasted gas for 20 minutes ONE WEEK. Reality is about an hour a week. Don’t take spouse/kids/friends anywhere to drop off like mall, library, grocery, store, etc then sit in the parking lot with car on. And don’t circle the lot, Park. → Don’t buy fuel if you DON’T need it, just because it dropped a cent or two. If it’s dropping, more than likely in 2/3 more days it will be cheaper. Remember consume all you have, gas does gum up. Keep your car in decent working order, oil change, tires, fluids, etc etc. →Recognize when you are wasting gas, every person's needs are different. → It is also legal to go LEFT on RED, from a one way street to another one way street with traffic that you merge LEFT into. Mostly in downtown areas. Go right on red all the time, don’t hold up traffic. → Rideshare, CL even has a category for it. And it doesn’t even have to be a daily thing to make a difference. Combine all trips is good, combine all trips with neighbors, friends, relatives is better, and look for stores like Home Depot and Wally World that ad match. One stop shopping. When going out for lunch, ask coworkers if they want anything from where your going-eliminates multiple trips. → Construction & OTR trucks that idle, don’t. I watched a dozer cut and load a side dump truck at site. Took over 30 minutes (I know that because that’s how long it took me to walk past) 30 minutes. It ran the whole time?!!!! WHY? And cut warm up times! If you do ½ hour do 15 minutes. When waiting on a pace car in construction zones or stopped in zones, turn your car off. They have those flaggers for a reason, why idle? Your not getting thru any faster even if you ram the car in front of you! And then your really not. Treat work vehicle the same, don’t take the approach, I’m not paying for the gas so who cares? Oh but you are. You pay with higher prices at pump, on your electric, AND that’s your next raise your wasting. → Turn overnight parked Semis, cars, and trucks off at truckstop/rest areas. Highway driving – find a semi going slightly faster than you and stay behind 100-200 yards or so—his tailwind sucks you along saving you gas, & he has radar for speed traps. Win win situation. Remember if you can’t see his mirrors – he can’t see you; don’t tailgate. →Keep a copy in your car. And watch when you are doing and others, highlight or check off, look at after three days. Then go OMG! →Remember a hose is just like a straw IT ACHIEVES it’s own level, how can this work for me? What happens before I pump? What happens after I pump? Should I fill up or get few gallons at a time? LMAO everytime I get gas. → Do you realize when you stop to drop off you MAKE all cars behind you stop also? Park. Please pull forward at pumps avoids others having driving around, and not just at pumps-anywhere. They even post this on the pumps. Drive the lights to avoid brake slow down stopped traffic. Allow other drivers out in traffic, keeps them going & not just sitting there idling. Look before you start the car anywhere, if your in a parking lot & cars & people are behind you, c’mon you know you’re not going it clears, why idle? → Keep prospective and look at prices across the country especially if your planning road trips.
