I have 13 days to find a place to live and move in; you'd think I'd figure that beggars can't be choosers, but really that's the opposite of my M.O. That and I don't really have too many hard and fast requirements for the place I choose to live. Here are the things I'm NOT willing to compromise on: No apartments No shared bedrooms A yard for my dog Someone that has a similar work schedule (8-5) give or take a few hours here or there. Late night service industry folks...we're probably not gonna work too well. No regular band practice/partying in the house. I'm totally down for loud crazy shit every now and again, but for me to be comfortable in a home I need to feel like there's some semblance of peace to it. I'm not expecting a zen garden in the living room and ambient/muzak playing 24/7, but knowing that when I come home everyday that my senses won't be raped by a large get together as soon as I get there has its perks. If I didn't come across like a complete jackass in the past section and you're still reading, here's a bit about me. I'm super cool, except when I'm not. I'm a pretty chill, funny guy that's easy to get along with. Being pushy is not in my nature. I can be pretty random. I work from 8 - 5 downtown, come home and take my dog out for exercise pretty immediately, normally returning around 6:30 or 7 every day. Oh...I have a big ass playful dog. He's a Great Dane/Boxer mix. He's pretty chill unless he goes without exercise for a few days (rarely happens). When I'm not home he's crated. I don't know from first hand knowledge how he does living with other dogs, but my mom watched him while I was on vacation 6 months ago and said he got on amazingly well with her two dogs. He's never had an experience with cats. He also doesn't know his size, so a home with small dogs probably isn't optimal. He's also hijacked my post...punk! I'm pretty social. I had a roommate when I first moved to Austin two years ago, and honestly, he was weird which made the whole situation awkward. I'd rather live with someone who I can get along with (and no, I don't expect us to be besties...). I listen to music pretty constantly, but am respectful of my surroundings. I don't own a TV or microwave by choice and don't care if you do. A place where I can fit my furniture would be great but not necessary, it can go to storage (I have medium boy furniture for my apartment. Not little boy like futons and other people's castaways...but it's all from IKEA). I go through phases where I'm super active socially outside the house, and phases where I'm super introverted and stay in. Either way, you can expect me out of the house until semi late (read: after 7 before 11ish) twice a week at least. I do hit the bars fairly regularly (generally on weekends unless there's a super special occasion), but am respectful when I come home. Things you may not like about me...(and that's ok, it doesn't make you a bad person, I swear): I am gay (But would never consider hitting on a roommate or worse; and don't usually find straight men attractive...though it happens occasionally) I have bad credit (though I paid off all my debt a year ago and live debt free) I have a gigantic dog (we've covered this) That should be it I think. <![CDATA[Just getting out there with a bit of a head start on the roommate hunt. I will be looking for a place to stay around the 1st of July, as classes start in mid August. I dont necessarily need to find someone with a room to rent, as I am open to signing a lease with someone at a new apartment (similar to the ones i have found here on craigslist). I have found places on here for around $350 with all bills paid that are located on the shuttle route. Perhaps you know a better place...I am open to that. I have found a lot of 4 bedrooms out there with all bills paid for $300, however, I think I am the type of person who needs his own bathroom...and 3 roommates just sounds like a recipe for disaster. I guess let me let you know a little bit about me: 30 year old Hispanic male (dont look/act 30, dont really look hispanic either, lol). I will be studying music in grad school so I am a music fanatic. It would be cool if you didnt mind a digital piano in the living room, but it isnt necessary. I really enjoy a glass of pinot grigio, along with conversations about politics, philosophy and religion. When it comes to drugs I am 420 and shroom friendly, but anything harder (cocaine, heroine, meth, etc.) is definitely not cool. I smoke cigarettes from time to time, but I never will inside of an apartment, and can not live with someone who would. I like to try to get outside when the weather is nice and dont mind just going for a walk without any real purpose. My dog, "G" will be living with me. He is a 9 year old male pug who never bites, who never goes to the restroom inside (even when he is home alone all day), and who only wants out of life the ability to lay on your lap. He does shed, so if thats a problem, we probably arent a good match. I dont mind if you have a dog as well, just as long as he/she is friendly. If you have a female dog, no worries about unwanted breeding...my dog is fixed. I love the beatles, steely dan, and many artists in between. One of the reasons I am so excited to live in Austin is to be around the music scene. I am very neat and clean...and would have to live with someone who is at least willing to keep the common areas clean. I have quite a bit of furniture if needed (couch, love seat, coffee/end tables, etc.), which is optional with my move. But if you are in need, I dont mind bringing it. I dont play current video games, but every now and then I like to fire up an NES or SNES emulator for a game of zelda or street fighter ii, lol. As for you, I dont mind male or female, just as long as you are a chill and clean person. I do like to party and go out, but not really to clubs. I prefer a bar or a lounge, and would like to live with someone who would like to get out every now and then. Ive been meaning to start buying organic food, so if you are already in that habit, thats a plus. It would be really cool if you were into any art, like music or painting. I dont mind having get togethers at my place...but I definitely dont want to have the party spot. I hear grad school is pretty tough, so I will need time to read and study. Also...something tells me if you are a conservative/republican/religious person...we probably wont mesh well together.]]>

<![CDATA[ I�m a 30 year old single mom to a wonderful two year old boy, and looking for a roommate starting in the summer, around July (give or take a month). I�d love to pool resources with another person, perhaps another single mom, and find a really great house with a yard in a neighborhood like Cherrywood, Travis Heights, the central east side or Hyde Park. I�m thinking one of those classic 1940s Austin cottages with wood floors, lots of sunlight and a front porch where you can sit drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and watch the world go by. It�s very important to me to live in a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, walkable to parks and coffeeshops and bikable to the university. About me: I�m been at the same creative white collar job for the last six years, now at management level. This fall I�ll be heading back to grad school at UT. I currently own a home in the county where I work, but I�m planning on renting that out in order to move back into central Austin. I love the life I live. In general, I�m really laid back, extroverted, drama-free and easy to get along with, as well as stable and responsible. I enjoy a good conversation, a good book and a good meal with friends. Since becoming a mom a lot of that has been curtailed, but I still enjoy occasionally going out when my son is with his dad. Cooking and entertaining are big hobbies of mine and I�ve never met a cuisine I didn�t like. I try to eat fresh, local and organic. I eat fish, but no meat, and my son eats sustainably produced meat. We�re pretty healthy, but we make room for occasional treats like pizza and ice cream. Parenting-wise, I practice attachment parenting, and I�ve really enjoyed things like babywearing, gentle discipline, extended breastfeeding, and some co-sleeping. We try to do limited TV and more time outside or in creative play. I definitely wouldn�t fit with a roommate who thinks breastfeeding is gross, homebirthing is crazy or spanking is okay. My ex and I are on amicable terms and he takes the baby at least two days a week. My son will be two and a half this summer. He�s super-sweet, very relaxed and typically really well behaved (though of course he�s energetic and can act like a two year old). He likes playing outside, cuddles, avocado and any machinery that burns large amounts of fossil fuel and goes vroom. About you: I could picture living with another single mom (I�d be open to the kids sharing a room, if they were roughly the same age), another single woman, or possibly a couple. I�d like to find someone intelligent, progressive and lefty who shares basic core philosophies, who lives their life in a positive, mindful way, and who understands that almost everything tastes better roasted with olive oil, sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. While I�ve had a ton of awesome roommates in my life, I�ve never been in a roommate situation as a parent, so it would be a whole new set of challenges to navigate. For obvious kid-related safety reasons, we would need to exchange references and hang out at least a couple times to make sure we were a good fit.
