"Steve has the three most important qualities you could want in a music teacher: The
theoretical knowledge of the student of music; the practical experience of the professional
working musician; and, perhaps most importantly, the understanding and ability of a
natural educator. Not just a great music teacher, but a great teacher."
- Dan C.

Hi folks!

If you are serious about learning to play guitar or bass, why don't you take lessons with one of the most experienced, dedicated, and fun guitar teachers in Austin?

“Steven is an excellent guitar teacher – he truly rocks. He has a very strong understanding of the instrument as well as a very strong ability to adapt to your style in order to help you achieve your guitar goals. I’ve taken lessons from a few different teachers and, by far, Steven has helped me to increase the breadth of my playing quickly and more precisely than anyone else I’ve ever worked with.”

- Amos S.

I am a guitar and bass instructor who has been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught hundreds of students, and have gotten great results on a consistent basis. I have two music degrees and one education degree, and have a developed teaching philosophy, as well as a commitment to being the best teacher I can be.

Check out my website at www.TheGuitarConsultant.net

“I've found my passion for guitar again after being “stuck” for years, unable to figure out how to keep improving – I'm enjoying guitar like when I first started.”

- Chris B.

In addition to being a guitar and bass teacher, I am a performer in Austin-based Blues and Jazz bands. I am also a singer-songwriter, and enjoy teaching songwriting and composition to students (if desired)

"Steve is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly teacher. He helped me learn a variety of songs, everything from children's songs to country ballads to Mexican folk music. He also taught me the basics and gave me exercises and strategies to increase my flexibility and range. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning to play the guitar.

- Janna J.

Unfortunately, many "guitar teachers", while often good musicians, have little idea of how to teach subjects such technique, theory, or rhythm. Others attempt to foist their musical tastes upon their students, forgetting that their job to be an enabler, not a pundit for their favorite artists or styles.

"Steve Baranowski is a great guitar teacher because he helps his students develop their own distinct abilities--not those of his own"

- Adam S.

I believe that being a great teacher is a rare chemistry of ability, education, insight, patience, experience, honesty, real-world knowledge, good humor, and love of teaching. I can bring these things to you.

“Steve makes learning the guitar fun. You’re guaranteed to laugh or at least smile a few times every lesson while you improve your knowledge of the guitar”

- Ben H.

I also believe that the job of a teacher is to create freedom for a student; a freedom, earned through practice, to take the music he or she plays in any direction desired, and to become a self-sufficient artist with a real identity. In other words, to help you be the musician you really want to be.

“Steve blends expert musicianship and an eclectic sense of humor to create a teaching style all his own. Backed by an immense knowledge of all things music, he caters to both the beginners and experts, whether they wish to play blues or punk, jazz or straight up rock n roll.”

- Chris H.

All levels welcome! Ages 9-90!

“I went to several guitar teachers before finding Steve, who was way better than the others; a great teacher who is proficient in anything I ask him about.”

- Chris B.

I teach Rock/Pop, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Liturgical, Theory, Songwriting...even Metal!

“You taught me more about guitar in 3 short months than I learned by looking through countless guitar books. You have a gift for quantifying a consistent methodology with out approaching it arrogantly or as if it's “the only way” It's a joy to learn from you.”

- Larry G.

From Jazz soloing to finger picking, learning the fretboard to learning to shred, or simply getting started on the right foot (a specialty of mine), I can give you the tools you need to take guitar as far as you want to go, and make sure you are going in the direction YOU want to go in.

"One thing I like about Steve is that he rolls with you; whichever musical direction interests you."

- R.W.

If this sounds like what you might be looking for, respond to this ad, or call me at (512)963-3285.

“He's got tons of experience, the lessons are fun, and it's a bargain. What more do you want?”

- Chris B.

Lessons are $20.00 for a half-hour, and $30.00 for an hour.

I am located in South Austin, just West of I35, and 10 minutes South of Downtown.

I'd love to hear from you!

“The best money I ever spent!”

- A. Jones

All four options (below) come with unlimited phone and e-mail access to me, unlimited writing sample review, detailed study plans, tons of practice material and analysis sheets, and review of your resume and personal statements at application time. I've reviewed 431 applications and over 2,000 writing samples over the years, so it's an easy job for me and I usually have lots of useful things to say. I get between 20 and 40 e-mails per day from students, mostly science questions, so I've pretty much explained every single MCAT science concept by now. This means it will be easy to cut and paste any science question you could possibly think of :)

Option 1: Weekly tutoring, usually one or two sessions per week of three hours each. The usual rate for this is $210 per hour. The benefit of this option is that I'll be your MCAT coach, trying to get the best performance out of you, a star athlete. We'll modify the strategies to fit your needs, and get you taking the MCAT to fit your strengths. Please call me for more information on this.

Option 2: Just one Expert Verbal Reasoning session, usually four hours long for $950. The benefit of this option is that it's very efficient. In just one day you can become an expert at VR strategy and learn how to study and review your work efficiently. Most of the progress will come from you reviewing my system, practicing the right way, and analyzing your results. This has been proven way more effective than a Kaplan course; I'm confident that you'll think it's worth it. Think of this as the "Intelligent Design" (theory of creation) option. Yes, I'm a huge nerd, but I can get you a great MCAT score so I make no apologies for bad jokes.

Option 3: One VR session (four hours), one Phys. Sci. session (three hours), and one Bio. Sci. session (three hours). This is similar to Option 2, but with the science strategy as well. I usually charge $225 per hour for this option. the benefit of this option is that you'll get a complete course in just 10 hours - very efficient and very effective. I'll show you the most highly-tested concepts and draw clear distinctions between MCAT science and "stuff you don't need to know". Does that make sense?

Option 4: One VR session (four hours), one Physics session (three hours), one Biology session (three hours), one Chemistry session (three hours), and one Organic Chemistry session (two hours). This is similar to Option 3, but with the sciences broken up by topic. I usually charge $215 per hour for this option.

I guess that's it. I'm in Boston, but I do 80% of my tutoring online via Skype. Are you familiar with that service? It's very convenient, and it allows me to work with students all over the country. For example, just this week I've had sessions with a student in Chicago, one at Stanford in California, and twin girls in Taiwan. In the past, I've met with students in London, Hawaii, Mexico, and even Perth (13-hour time difference). It's a pretty interesting job, I gotta say.

Energy from inorganic compounds
Further information: Microbial metabolism and nitrogen cycle

Chemolithotrophy is a type of metabolism found in prokaryotes where energy is obtained from the oxidation of inorganic compounds. These organisms can use hydrogen,[41] reduced sulfur compounds (such as sulfide, hydrogen sulfide and thiosulfate),[1] ferrous iron (FeII)[42] or ammonia[43] as sources of reducing power and they gain energy from the oxidation of these compounds with electron acceptors such as oxygen or nitrite.[44] These microbial processes are important in global biogeochemical cycles such as acetogenesis, nitrification and denitrification and are critical for soil fertility.[45][46]
[edit] Energy from light
Further information: Phototroph, photophosphorylation, chloroplast

The energy in sunlight is captured by plants, cyanobacteria, purple bacteria, green sulfur bacteria and some protists. This process is often coupled to the conversion of carbon dioxide into organic compounds, as part of photosynthesis, which is discussed below. The energy capture and carbon fixation systems can however operate separately in prokaryotes, as purple bacteria and green sulfur bacteria can use sunlight as a source of energy, while switching between carbon fixation and the fermentation of organic compounds.[47][48]

In many organisms the capture of solar energy is similar in principle to oxidative phosphorylation, as it involves energy being stored as a proton concentration gradient and this proton motive force then driving ATP synthesis.[15] The electrons needed to drive this electron transport chain come from light-gathering proteins called photosynthetic reaction centres or rhodopsins. Reaction centers are classed into two types depending on the type of photosynthetic pigment present, with most photosynthetic bacteria only having one type, while plants and cyanobacteria have two.[49]

In plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, photosystem II uses light energy to remove electrons from water, releasing oxygen as a waste product. The electrons then flow to the cytochrome b6f complex, which uses their energy to pump protons across the thylakoid membrane in the chloroplast.[7] These protons move back through the membrane as they drive the ATP synthase, as before. The electrons then flow through photosystem I and can then either be used to reduce the coenzyme NADP+, for use in the Calvin cycle which is discussed below, or recycled for further ATP generation.[50]

Experienced guitar teacher (8 years teaching, 19 years performing) seeking to build a clientele of students at his home music studio on weekends. Age range of past students varied from six years old to adults. I hold a bachelor’s degree in jazz guitar performance from Northern Illinois University, and am now working as a music teacher at a reputable private music school in Austin. Currently, I teach over 30 guitar students. I also gig frequently around Austin, performing rock and roll, folk, bluegrass, and blues.

I am enthusiastic about sharing the joy of music with others. My philosophy is that learning music should be both fun and productive. Many of my students end up learning to play a variety of styles of music through a diverse curriculum, from classical to contemporary, jazz to pop, and many styles in between. I strive to balance teaching what I feel to be ‘important music fundamentals’ with also teaching the songs each individual student wants to learn. Whether it’s a Taylor Swift song, a Beatles tune, a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo, or a Carcassi classical etude, I want to help you learn to play the music you love.

My home studio is in South Austin, near the intersection of William Cannon and Manchaca. The music studio is equipped with music stands, a large collection of sheet music, guitar amps, effect pedals and recording equipment; the perfect distraction free environment for learning music and tapping into your guitar’s full potential.

I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a 3.9 GPA in Pure Mathematics. I have experience tutoring calculus and other subjects, and I enjoy helping others work through problems. One student of mine majored in abstract math and graduated with a very good GPA. Others were high school students struggling with pre-calculus exams. Still others have been elementary school students and others, retirees!

I am a friendly and personable guy, yet I am also very professional. I can help you or your child succeed in math.

I charge $30/hour for my services, $25/hour per student if there are two students in a session, and $20 per hour if there are more than two students. The sessions can be held at my house, your house, or a public location like Barnes & Noble.

I offer individual tutoring sessions as well as special rates for group tutoring. Study with friends and save money! Once we decide we like one another you can even call or email me for help whenever you need it (contingent upon ongoing tutoring status). We can meet on campus, at a local library, your favorite bar (not recommended!), your place or mine, whatever works best for you (and is not logistically impossible for me).

My basic rate is $25 per hour. If you are experiencing financial difficulty, please explain your circumstances to me and we may be able to work out a reduced rate, especially if you are willing to travel to a place of my choosing and save me gas and commute time. =)

I DO NOT offer to do your homework for you. I will answer any questions and walk you through a few homework problems if needed but I am here to help people LEARN and UNDERSTAND math, not cheat their way through school. If that's all you are looking for, check out the other guys....

Let's face it; math can be pretty tough and intimidating. I can help you learn to kick Math's ass! I have the patience of a saint and will do whatever it takes to help you understand anything you may get stuck on. I'm also very laid back and down to earth. I do my best to make math fun, after all, who wants to spend an hour or two with an egghead berating them in a monotone voice for not instantly getting the concepts their advanced brains were preprogrammed with? Certainly not me and probably not you!

If you are ready to do better in class, raise your GPA, overcome test anxiety and gain deeper insight into the mathematical nature of the universe (or just start making passing grades), then don't hesitate to contact me!

PS - I can also help you with basic programming. I also have quite a bit of knowledge in video editing and production, audio work, etc. Basically anything artsy that can be done on a computer. Email me if you need help!

Painting “Signature Class”
Learning to work with color will enhance your life and
brighten your world. We paint on giant canvases in such a

way that laughter fills the studio. As young artists become
apprentices of the masters a great nostalgia intrigues us
all. Skills are taught through acrylics, watercolor, and oil
sticks. Advanced artists are encouraged to express their
own styles and concepts and dive deeper into color

theory. Compositions must be approved by instructor.

and portrait drawings. Learn to draw what you see for
real and through your imagination. Skills are taught using

charcoal, graphite, chalk pastel and oil crayons. Advanced
students may create a body of work with a common

Sculpture
Let’s get 3-D ! Sculpture often comes easy to most stu-
dents and is a great creative introduction to understand-
ing form, proportion, and design. The ’subtractive method’
will be explored using oil base clay and stone carving. The
’additive method’ will be taught using “tape~a~ma~papa
meche” ( paper meche) and wire forms. Advanced artists
may construct architectural structures, mobiles and multi
media assignments as well. We will fill the room with ani-
mals and people that come from your own imagination,
and you can see it ‘all the way around’ !

Do you know what can be the best relationship advice for men about women? If men really want to know how to make a relationship work for the long haul they need to know what do women look for in a relationship.

And to know what do women look for in a relationship the most important advice would be to stop listening to what women say they want and start observing what women actually show they want.

How does a woman actually show what they want? Well, its simple. Just observe the choices she makes about men especially what kind of men she chooses.

Its common knowledge that a woman does not always mean what she says. If a man is able to decipher what she means, he can be exceptionally successful with women.

A woman says, "I want a man who listens to me". But whom does she choose? A man who does all the talking. A woman says, "My man should have a good sense of humor". But whom does she date? The guy who has cash.

Why does this happen? Why does she say that she wants a particular type of man and then she goes and does the exact opposite of that? The answer lies in the subconscious factors that motivate a woman to form a relationship with man. And if a man can know those motivating factors, the rest is a cakewalk.

Historically and biologically a man and a woman form a relationship to further the species. In simple terms, child bearing would be the last thing on her mind. But in spite of it, when she is considering a relationship, at the subconscious level, she is still searching for a man who will be a good father to her children.

So who can be a good father? A man who listens to her? No, it is someone who can provide for her and for her children. Who can do that? A man who is confident of bringing home the bacon.

Biologically also, women need men who would prove to be good providers. A man can produce thousands of sperms repeatedly in their adulthood, even when they are old. But a woman has just about 400 chances of producing an offspring. And so, its natural that they are looking for a man who can give them longevity and stability.

Let us say a man tells a woman that he is a lawyer. And another says that he is a para-legal. The woman perceives that the lawyers can be a better provider for her children and so he stands a greater chance of having her.

Having a good income and providing from it generously are two separate issues. That is why a woman not only seeks to understand that her man has a good income but also wants to know how generous he is. Only a generous man would provide for her and for her children's future. Now you know why a woman is overwhelmed when you gift her high value items like jewellery.

It also explains why the engagement ring is so valuable. Apart from the traditional and romantic value, it also tells the woman that her man is generous enough to care for her and for her children.

In modern times, man makes more money with brain power rather than muscular skills. However, women are hard wired to think that a man of greater strength can provide better. And so, the woman chooses the lineman over the computer geek even though the tax return states the contrary.

So here is the big secret. If a man can figure out the evolutionary reason behind the choices of a woman and give it to her, he will be a success. What do women look for in a relationship would then be so evident.

Music Facts!

~Grade-school children who took piano lessons for three years scored higher than their peers on tests of general and spatial cognitive development - the very faculties needed for performance in math, engineering, and other pursuits, according to a McGill University Study - As noted on the National Piano Foundation website.

~Children who study a musical instrument for at least three years outperform children with no instrumental training - not only in tests of auditory discrimination and finger dexterity (skills honed by the study of a musical instrument), but also on tests measuring verbal ability and visual pattern completion (skills not normally associated with music). Researchers Drs. Gottfried Schlaug and Ellen Winne were surpised that the musicians scored higher in two skills that appear unrelated to music - verbal ability (as measured by a vocabulary IQ test) and visual pattern completion (as measured by the Raven's Progressive Matrices). Furthermore, the longer and more intensely the child had studied his or her instrument, the better he or she scored on these tests. - All according to a Harvard-based study - As published in The Music Trades magazine in February 2009.

MagicMusic’s staff of music teachers drive to your home for private music lessons 7 days per week. All instruments - Piano, Guitar, Violin, Drums, Voice, Singing, Band Instruments, and more!
