<![CDATA[Whats up, my name is James, 23, and I just moved to Austin last week. I'm looking for an established band that needs a vocalist / people wanting to start something new. I've been playing in steady bands since 2004, have toured with two bands, and recorded several times. I've got a great singing voice for melodic punk stuff (think Bad Religion, not to be confused with pop-punk). However, if I do say so myself, my hard vocals sound mean as hell, which many have said resemble the styles of Mean Pete of Remembering Never/Bishop, Andy of Figure Four/Comeback Kid, and Vincent of The Acacia Strain to name a few. So that's how I sound and how much I've played and whatnot. But this is the real me. I'm an Austinite transplant from middle Tennessee. I resigned (amicably) from my former band to move here with my lady and some friends. I don't drink or do drugs, but I don't really care if you do. I love music, I love video games, I love movies. I'm a little bit nerdy, and I think that's where my anger mostly comes from: nerd rage. <![CDATA[I'm looking for some guys to complete my band so I can stop using hired guns. Specifically a lead guitar player w/ harm. vocals a plus. We are looking for players in our relative age range (20's-30's) who are ready to be a part of a new project breaking off of an established project. This is our business. The bass player and I are 27 and 33 and are established in (live and work out of) College Station and need guys wanting to be a part of a touring Tx country/americana band with full promo (radio and press), management (full financial strategic marketing plan has been drafted and approved) and financial investors. I'm cutting a 5 song EP on Feb 22nd that is being produced by Walt Wilkins. The new drummer is 29 and lives in Austin, but is committed to the commute for rehearsal and gigging. We will release a single to radio (w/ pro radio promo) in April and the physical should release in late April under Universal Music/Fontana Distribution. I personally have been playing a 150 gig/year schedule for the last couple years as a solo acoustic/quartet acoustic and when the CD releases I can convert at least a third of those into full band gigs immediately, I also have venue contacts asking for full band constantly that will be booked for the release as well. In all honesty, once the CD is out and a single being promoted to radio we will garner interest in more and more venues and possibly booking agents that will make us a 150 gig/year full band soon enough. Full band gigs to start the tour include April 23 @ the White Elephant Saloon in Fort Worth and April 24 @ Poor Davids Pub in Dallas. Little history on me... Started a band called Johns Guns here in 2006 and released a debut CD (Buy Sell Trade) in 2007 which saw minor success. Sales at shows and online were great, over 2000 sold....radio airplay was not often due to zero promo and insufficient production quality. That band has established great fan bases in this area, Houston, New Braunfels and especially D/FW where our shows would regularly draw 100+ for ticketed shows. I really feel there is a lot of potential here, I just need a solid core of players to work with so we can reestablish a tight sounding band. I write with several other published writers including Walt and am completely immersed in the Tx country/red dirt/americana etc. music scene...we will have no shortage of work once we get going...we just gotta get going. Ideally I�m looking for you to move here to College Station. Both the bassist and I have secure living situations, a huge, ridiculous, free rehearsal space and are deeply connected with all things venue/music in this area...makes sense right? My thinking is...if I advertise to the great pool of lifer musicians living in Austin, we may find those guys willing to pack up and move here. If you can afford to live in Austin now, you can definitely afford to live in College Station because the rent is at least half as much. The bassist and I both work day jobs a few days a week ( I just sub teach) in order to cover all expense but we both live very,very comfortably. If you are interested in being a part of this project I will do all the research you need to secure you a nice, clean, affordable living situation and a great part time job (i've worked just about everywhere here and still maintain contact with those places). WE NEED SERIOUS PLAYERS WHO WILL NOT LET DEPENDANCIES INTERFERE WITH THEIR PRIORITIES...IE: WE'LL HAVE A GOOD OLD TIME IF WE GET OUR BUSINESS DONE FIRST AND FOREMOST. We are looking for a bass player, preferably with some guitar knowledge, as I play bass and we would like to do some stuff with that. However, you would be primarily playing bass, and if you don't play any guitar at all, that's still ok. We're playing about half originals and half covers, with several unfinished original songs still in the making. Eventually we'd like to play all or mostly originals. We've been playing together for about 3 months and have a good hour and a half worth of material worked up. Looking to do some shows around town and play pretty seriously, practicing about 1-3 times a week. We both live in the Lakeway area, and I have a very nice setup with a drum kit and bass amp and PA at my house, and we would probably practice here because of that, but if you can't for some reason we can also go to you. Maybe I need to get out more, and "network", but I've never really been very good at making "connections". So, here I am again, Craigslist... ME: I'm a female singer, in my early thirties, with a distinctive, jazzy-ish, soprano voice...in a similar vein to Beth Gibbons and Liz Frazer. I don't have much experience as a singer because, well, something has always stopped me from getting out there - debilitating perfectionism, and a fear of failure probably. YOU: A guitarist or keyboard player, who knows your way around a computer. I'd prefer it if you were in your late twenties *at least*, and if you were fairly experienced, and well-connected. I have talent, but it's raw, and I need somebody who knows what they're doing to help shape it. MY VISION: I've got absolutely no idea what to call the kind of music I want to do. I hate labels, and I especially hate the one "folktronic", but that is the best description I can think of (with more emphasis on the "folk" than the "tronic" - and with a little bit of jazz thrown into the mix). Whatever the fuck it's called, this music would be dark, spare, sexy and very vocal-centric. For a better idea of what I want, check out "Pumajaw" and "Mi and Lau". I'm happy to do experimental stuff, but never at the expense of melody. I'm sorry if this sounds inflexible, but I'm not interested in joining an already established project. I've done this before, and even though people always say they're up for collaborating, it never seems to turn out this way. I always end up having to sing stuff I don't enjoy singing. I want this to be *OUR* baby, something we created together, from scratch. You would come up with the main body of the song, and then I would add the vocal melody and lyrics. I've gotten pretty fed up with playing full band shows with different players all the time who don't have the time to give the project in order for it to look and sound like the pro level production I'm seeking. I've spent the last few months doing that just because I wanted to get out and play as much as possible. Nothing against doing that, for those who do, it's just not what I want. I can continue playing 20-25 dates a month solo or duo acoustic until the band sounds like I want it to. We have a solid pair of singer songwriters, a great guitarist, years of top level experience, a buzz, a good album getting good reviews, two agents from two agencies working to keep us busy, gigs on the books and a good reputation. We need a solid bass player who is cool with spending the time it's gonna take the first several weeks to get the sound and show right. <![CDATA[I probably am giving the game away here but I've played the Georgetown Market. As a rule I'm pretty much not happy with playing for free either but there are exceptions. This was a non-profit event as far as the organizers are concerned. Not a bar on 6th St. Second, partly due to being fed up with dealing with the attitude of too big a portion of the "musicians" in this town, I've been focusing on my solo act until and when I can command better pay for the players I want. This seemed like a decent opportunity and whenever I play outside of Austin I usually get treated well. Georgetown is a pretty cool little town. To the point, I spent two hours on a glorious day being heard by several hundred people wandering around. A few even sat down on the lawn and had a proper listen. I played my own songs with some obscure covers from other songwriters. I got no end of compliments from the general public and many of the vendors. I was treated with respect and great courtesy by the organizers. Yeah, I only played for tips and CD sales but I earned a total of $110. That's right, $110 for a gig that so many couldn't be bothered with. So here is a choice that is presented to us quite often in the Austin area, dismiss any gig which does not pay a minimum fee regardless of what it is and spend the time you could have been out there performing bitching on craigslist. This course will guarantee you make nothing, no money, no new friends, no new fans. You lose, as in loser. The second option is to look at an offer and if the situation warrants, take a chance. You may be disappointed or you may have a great time and make money. In either event you at least attempted something positive for yourself and so you win. When you roll the dice it doesn't always come up craps. ]]>

Someone who is not GIG driven, meaning your main focus is not just on trying to play. We are seeking people who will be committed to making QUALITY music, not just throwing anything up to God.
