Austin Dog Rescue (WWW.AUSTINDOG.ORG) is seeking Foster Dog Caregivers:
We need foster homes in order to save dogs that have been abandoned in shelters and are at a HIGH risk of being euthanized. We are asked time and time again by those that have adopted from us “how did this wonderful dog end up in a shelter with no family to come for them?” We ask ourselves that same question. We are surprised over and over again by how resilient these dogs are and how easily they become acclimated to the good life! And even though they are extremely resilient, it also takes the love, care and patience of a foster caregiver to help each dog to become the dog of their dreams!

Austin Dog Rescue provides you with everything you need to be a successful foster caregiver. First and foremost, we provide you with our complete support and truly believe our foster caregivers are the MOST IMPORTANT MEMBER of our TEAM and we all want to work together and meet our goal of locating the best new forever homes for our dogs. In most cases, when a dog is taken in to our care, it is first placed in the home of one of our board members or one of our more experienced foster homes. This gives us a chance to truly evaluate the dog’s behavior and needs before placing it in a foster caregiver’s home. Once we finish our evaluation, we put the call out to open foster homes that a caregiver is needed. We do all we can to set YOU and the DOG up for success! We do ask for a commitment of time and patience from our foster homes. Most of our dogs are adopted within a month’s time, but your commitment to your foster dog must be that should it take longer than that, you are willing to care for your foster dog until a home is found.

We pay for all pre-approved medical care as the health of our dogs is of the utmost importance to us. We have several vets we work closely with throughout the Austin Area and if one is not within a 30 minute drive for you, we will search out and find one that is. We require a two-hour training in your home to address any concerns or questions you may have before fostering your first dog. We provide you with a crate that helps promote housetraining, monthly heartworm and flea preventative. We do require that you bring your foster dog to our monthly Meet and Greets and strongly encourage you to attend additional training that we provide free of charge throughout the year. And we also have a volunteer party each summer and invite you and your entire family to attend because fostering is truly a family affair!

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these opportunities, please visit complete an on-line volunteer application OR foster application at WWW.AUSTINDOG.ORG. Although it remains among the most traditional areas of the country, it is also the poorest and less developed part in terms of infrastructure or industry; creating a huge rural exodus and migration from the Isan inhabitants to Bangkok. The Khueang Nai District administration wants to dynamize the Deng Mor rural areas and stimulate English learning through the international volunteers' presence. The main target group of the project will be young people and children. Inside this larger framework, each project will address the specific target group in different villages in the Deng Mor area.
Cultural exchange is the main work of the project. The volunteers will discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks. The volunteers will also hold English teaching workshops for the children of several district villages. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers.
Special requirements: A correct level of English language and the will to teach it to kids is obviously necessary. The volunteers need also to be motivated to discover Thai culture and to present the one of their country of origin.
Leisure time: Leisure time will be organised by the volunteers with the support of the group leader.

Thank you for thinking Austin Dog Rescue!

Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature. The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides.
In this time of the year when conditions are favorable you can see the Northern lights (Aurora borealis) glowing curtain of greenish yellow lights, dancing in the distance to a spectacular, multi-colored fusion stretching across the sky.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The international volunteers will visit kindergartens in Reykjavik and introduce different cultures to the kids. One of the tasks of this workcamp is to prepare games, songs and materials for those visits and we kindly ask the participants to bring materials that we can use for the preparation. The Youth House School is a small education center for disadvantaged street children and children coming from a poor fishing village, located in the outskirts of Hanoi. The international volunteers will help run the school and will be responsible for keeping the school clean, cooking free lunch for the children, and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is a time for cultural exchange and embracing new relationships. The international volunteers will work together with a team of local volunteers, led by a group leader. The volunteers will teach around 15 children every day. Remember, the children are not used to rules and structure in their households, so volunteers must try to implement this by setting an example. The Youth House is also a place where young local people and international volunteers come to explore the cultural diversity, by teaching the children together or organizing leisure activities, such as taking the children to the swimming pool.
These activities are combined with projects to help disadvantaged people at the Fisher Village, who are very poor and live in slum-boats on the Red river. This is done by giving them food, medicines, water filters (for clean drinking water), toothpaste, second-hand warm clothes and free showers in winter, etc.
The Red River is the biggest river in Vietnam. The delta is located in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The city continues to expand with many people coming from the countryside into the urban area. This however, is an expensive endeavor with the government imposing a tax on people coming from the rural area to prevent a massive influx of people. Some people decide however to come despite this financial situation and thus must live in house boats at the river to escape from having to pay. Since they do not technically live in Hanoi they must pay for school which is usually free until the age of 12. The entire family must work hours that most people would consider inhumane. The children wander the streets begging and collecting rubbish. An entire family barely makes $2 a day.

For more info and enrollment, please go to: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-vietnam.htm

To learn more about the international volunteer workcamps go to: www.cadip.org/workcamp.htm or give us a call:
 617-502-0400

 604-628-7400

Volunteer opportunities in other countries: www.cadip.org

Hello!

My trial partner and I are two first year law students doing Mock Trial, and we're in need of two witnesses for our defense case. It's a great opportunity to see what a Mock Trial is like firsthand, and my team would buy you dinner and drinks afterward.

We need one person (any gender) who is willing to play a slightly sketch college student who is being charged with cyber stalking. Profile: this student has a fascination with Jack the Ripper, and his/her mission in life is to complete research on human reactions to fear, as well as pain and suffering.

We also need a witness (any gender) to play a college professor of computer science. The prof is just giving testimony on the background of the campus chatroom in which the stalking was done, and also giving a brief opinion on the facts of the case.

Please reply if you're interested! The absolute maximum amount of times we would meet is seven times, assuming we make it to finals. You absolutely do NOT have to commit to every round. If you know you can't make it a certain date, we can find someone else to witness for us.

Each trial is two hours long, but you're only going to be called in for about 25 minutes per trial (you can just hang outside doing whatever around the time you're going to be called, and we'll just bring you in when its your time to go.)

Also, please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks a lot!

You will need to become part of our consumer testing team. We are putting together new teams now to carry out our last tests before the iPad ships. As a team member you will be asked to carry out some basic tests on the iPad. The tests consist of nothing too technical, just some basic user functions.

Support for disabled children on Bali Island
December 5 - December 19, 2009
March 20 - April 3, 2010

Bali Island is a densely populated island, with population more that 3 million people all together. The population is almost all Indonesian, 95% are of Balinese Hindu descent and could be describe as ethic Balinese. Bali is also a tiny, extremely fertile and dramatically mountainous island. It is only 140 km by 80 km. The tourism boom, which started in 1970s has brought many changes and has helped pay for improvement in roads, telecommunication, education and health. Though tourism has had some marked effects, Bali’s unique culture and custom has proved to be remarkably island. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. Moreover, this school is also aimed to encourage and motivate the disable children and youth to struggle for their future. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff, particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable.
The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc . Volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children.

For more details about this projects, please visit : www.cadip.org/volunteering-in-indonesia.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400, 604-628-7400

This project is part of Cadip's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org
