<![CDATA[This is a beautiful original signed painting by acclaimed Spanish American Artist Jose L. Campuzano. I'm not exactly sure what type of paints were used to create this, but I believe it is an oil painting. Colors include shades of brown, gold, green & gray. It dates back to the 1960's and measures 36.25" long by 23.25" high. The subject of the painting is a romantic abstract street scene with a captivating air of mysticism. There is an old fashioned carriage on a cobblestone street, tree lined sidewalks and soaring buildings that seem to magically fade into the background. There is a wire on the back for hanging. This painting is in excellent condition. A bio on Campuzano follows...please email if interested: Jose Luis Campuzano was born in Bilbao, Spain in 1918. He studied at the School of Arts and Functions and later entered the University of Victoria where he majored in philosophy. In 1955 he left Spain for South America. For the next decade, he worked as an artist, moving from Uruguay to Argentina and finally Brazil. During this period his paintings were shown in Bilboa, Spain; Montevideo, Uruguay; Sao Paulo, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Around 1971 he was awarded second place in the Collective Exposition in the Artesania Gallery in Spain. He also illustrated books, devised and built toys and worked as a graphic designer. At the urging of a well known South American artist who had moved to the United States, Campuzano came to New York City. In New York City he studied with well-known South American artist, Jorge Dumas, and Belgian born artist, G. Pierre. In the intervening years, he built a reputation for romantic street scenes and soaring abstracts. Those who collect his work agree that he is a master at creating an air of mysticism in whatever he paints. He was an admirer of Sorolla, Renoir, Soya and Rubens. Greatly influenced by Renoir, Campuzano excels in soft focus and the ability to move the imagination of the viewer out and beyond the frame. As he says, "Together, the viewer with his eyes and I with by (sic) brush, create a visual experience. This is an experience which is personal and which could not exist without the two of us." Campuzano has been represented in major galleries from coast to coast. Exhibitions of his work have been held at The Old Olive Tree Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona; Gallery in the Square, Boston; Carolyn Summers Gallery, New Orleans and Chicago, and the Clayton Art Gallery, St. Louis . He has also exhibited extensively in Europe and South America. ]]>

Both are traditional in that they are symmetrical designs and were scissor-cut from bright red paper. Both were bought in China and are in their original bags. Papercuts have been used as decoration in China for centuries. They ornament mirrors, walls, lanterns, etc., and are sometimes used to decorate presents or given as gifts. These papercuts would look lovely framed. The rooster and fish papercuts are on white stock that is 4-3/4" tall x 7-1/2" wide.
