ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Are you a current Montessori teacher and looking for a change? If so, we are looking for you! We are seeing an experienced preschool and elementary school teacher trained in the Montessori philosophy for early childhood development. This is a 5 days per week, part-time position (3-4 hours per day), with a regular school calendar (September – May). Flexible compensation structure would be commensurate with experience. This position would officially start in the fall 2010 timeframe, but anticipate that there will be some planning that would begin prior to this date.

ABOUT US:

For various reasons, we are disenchanted with our local public school systems. We are not a school (or seeking to open one), just a bunch of proactive parents who looking for an alternative education. We love the idea of focused homeschooling our children, but are not sure that we have the time or are properly trained to undertake such commitment for something so important as our children’s education, especially in the critical developmental years. We have considered private schools, but they would most likely be financially prohibitive. We are seeking someone with a true love of teaching to be the primary teacher in our homeschool environment.

We have a large space (approximately 2000 sq ft) which we would construct to be our state-of-the-art formal classroom. We would pay for the construction of the facilities and purchase all necessary learning materials and supplies.

Our current thinking would be to have the successful candidate lead our children in the mornings (3-4 hours) with a focus on grammar, math, and science. Your commitment would generally end there, with the exception of cleanup and planning activities, and periodic parent/teacher meetings. Group lunch and exercise/play time would follow in the afternoons (led by the parents). Afternoons (also led by parents or other teachers) would consist of foreign language studies, arts studies, field trips, and interactions with other homeschool programs. We would also need your help in developing the homeschool curriculum for each of the students to be approved by the town.

We are thinking that we would eventually reintroduce our children back into the public school system at some point in the future, possibly around middle school, but that is yet to be determined. The children currently range in age from 3 to 6 and we anticipate that we will initially have 5-7 students. We have toddlers that would eventually join the program upon reaching the right age, should this be successful. You would teach the same group of students until they are reintroduced back into the public school system.

We are very serious about this initiative and are able to give a multi-year commitment to the right candidate, in return for the same.

REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for an experienced Montessori trained teacher for preschool and elementary school children. If you have a true love of teaching, and would love to be an integral part of the education of a truly smart and fabulous bunch of kids, we would love to speak with you! Interested applicants would ideally possess the following leadership and technical skills:

• A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education

• Montessori elementary school training and Director certification by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

• At least 1 year experience in a Montessori classroom setting

• Ability to compose and adjust a proper annual curriculum appropriate for each age group

• Flexiblity in your approach while being willing and able to incorporate specific needs of both children and parents

• Excellent references from both peers and parents

• Must be reliable and punctual

• Must be high energy, loving, kind, organized, and possess a love of working with children

If you are interested in learning more, please reply to this ad with a cover letter and resume. Thank-you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you!
We are looking for someone who can be a nanny to our children in Bermuda, and also an educator to our youngest daughter, India (five and a half years), who has some developmental delay. She goes to a private Montessori based school, but we are looking for someone to go with her half the day to help her learn one-to-one. Our nanny would also be required to pick up both kids from school and take them to afterschool activities, cook dinner, help with homework etc. You would also need to take India to her various therapies (occupational therapy/language therapy, for example) and try to integrate them into her everyday learning.
