I've listened to songs I've written compared to the songs my friends write. I think I might be kind of mentally crazy in comparison to my musical friends. My friend Jerry said he thought my tunes reminded him of "Syd Barrett," not that I agree with that but I've heard that a bit; your own personal senses will have the final say. One day I just stopped working there, and never showed up again. I vowed that day two months ago to never, ever, work again. Not because I'm a lazy type, far from it! I'm the only guy who wants to sing and play guitar all day, every day, any time of day, even at 3 am. Oh boy do I mean it, and I'm honestly a little mentally taxed because I'm living in a house where I'm told to quiet down, I mean it's not like I can never play, but I've heard people tell me to stop drumming, stop singing (I'm trying to listen to bob marley!) and it makes it so that even when they're not saying anything while i play, I can never know if I'm "bothering" them with my loudness, which totally, fucks my creative energy up. And honestly I do need to sing through a mic and plug my guitar in, I'd rather not use my acoustic and just sing at room volume. I'm not Joan Baez. I'm a man, I'm 23 goddamnit! Don't get me wrong, my roommate is a beautiful human being, and he's helped me out through this life in so many ways. But, he's much quieter. In fact, none of my roommates, as artistic as they are, are not loud performing musicians like me. So I'm not in an environment where I can truly do anything. The 'band' I have is cool, but my drummer only comes over once a week and we can't score a bassist. That's hardly enough time for a good band. I'm just left with feelings of, "am I the only one who wants to do this" But I still play music every moment I can. Biking to UCON to street perform, open mics, public performing at the Mohegan Sun walkway and making money that way, what the fuck ever I CAN DO TO PLAY MUSIC AND HAVE FUN! Having people around is just an impetus for me to play my fucking craziest. So how do I need help from you? just give me a room and I'll start playing shows with you in your band in two weeks if you're genuine and serious about music. I'm really versatile, I would like to play something within the indie, pop, punk, post-punk genres, but I am willing to experiment. I'm even down for some good pop punk or melodic hardcore. I'm 21, male, laid back, and friendly. Some of my influences are The Weakerthans, Lucero, Kid Dynamite, Saves The Day, old Jimmy Eat World, American Football, The Promise Rings, Maritime, Jawbreaker....could go on all day. I'm also into a bit of jazz and swing like Buddy Rich. I like to experiment and mix genres. I could do some backing vox as well, but Im not that great of a singer. I can play with males or females, that doesn't bother me. I prefer those who are over 18, and who are good at what they do. I'm using a different emaill address for this post.*** Hello, I'm a multi-instrumentalist in his mid 20s who is looking to put together a new band in the near future. The music I compose is intensely rhythmic and bass groove driven. I'm into poly-rhythmic percussion, explorative synth & organ lines, call & response vocal patterns and minimalist funk guitar. Needless to say, I am tremendously influenced by African dance music from the 60s and 70s. I have some material recorded, which can be heard on my myspace. However, the tracks posted feel a bit contrived and are lacking on the percussion side. Also, not being a vocalist I rely heavily on a vocoder. I would like to tie some of my songs together with defined vocal elements. The individuals I'm seeking should be experienced, musically proficient (but not overplayed), posses improvisational skills and have a willingness to collaborate in the writing of original material. Instrumentalists who are able to contribute backing vocals or additional percussion are highly desirable. Initially, I’m looking for a few people to fill the following roles: *Vocalist - Stylistically appropriate, with good range and can write lyrics. *Drummer – Dynamic, steady and tight, with experience in polyrhythms and dance beats. Programing skills would be a plus. *Guitarist - Someone who can play simple, stripped down funk licks and can create subtle atmospheric elements, depending on what the song calls for. Delay and Chorus effects are essential. *Keyboard Player - Musically knowledgeable, with a good ear and can harness both organ and synth textures.
