It was built in 1996 when Head Monk, Thich Truyen Tu, returned to the countryside and sold his parent’s land, in order to purchase 2 hectares of muddy land to build a pagoda in Nha Be town. At first the pagoda was named Huyen Trang, but due to the roofs linking together with coconut leaves it got its name Chua La, meaning Leaf Pagoda. Today, in this peaceful and quiet space in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, the Leaf pagoda is bringing up orphan children and helping old people in need. At the moment, there are about 40 children of ages from 4 to 17 years old. In addition, there are 20 old people in Leaf Pagoda, most of them coming from the surrounding countryside in the South and have had a difficult life. Children have opportunities to learn and speak foreign languages with English being the most studied. They can also speak some Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The standard of living here is low, almost all of their food is donated, and they only buy tofu.
Volunteers will spend time with the children and help improving their English, organizing games and other activities for them. Volunteers will also help redecorating the houses and classrooms, planting vegetable, cleaning the area. Volunteers will get closer to the children’s life and try to build up wider horizon for the children and encourage them to learn better for brighter future.
Study part: Disadvantaged children in Vietnam
Special requirements: Interest and motivation working with children in difficult situation..
Project language: English
Location: Ho Chi Minh City (or Sai Gon), in the southern part of Vietnam.
Age range: 18 and over

For more info and enrolment please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-vietnam.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please step here: www.cadip.org t. 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

My heart was broken the other day when I entered a facility that I visited in South Dallas that services inner-city kids. The Director who is so full of passion was frantically mopping up puddles of water as she was preparing to serve lunch to us. She'd invited myself and several other women out in hopes that we would take interest in her 501c3 organization and help her out in anyway that we could. This lady reaches hundreds of kids and teens per year with her creative events including theatre, art, Back to School Bashes, Black History events and more. I currently don't have the money to donate her and don't know where else to go but here. I am hoping that someone out there knows of a resource that will be beneficial to her to aid her with this horrible roof issue. I don't know the details of what needs to be done but I do know that there were several holes and it is probably quite dangerous and hazordous......It is obvious that the work this lady puts in is wonderful and that several children and single parents depend on her to give them a positive outlet within the community. Is there any church or organization out there that can make this a project? Is there anyone willing to help? Please call 214-854-9291

It is home to the Victoria Falls, one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders. It is also a very historic city with many relics from a bygone era. It has a railway museum and the Livingstone museum is worth visiting. The Mosi-O-Tunya National Park is home to the endangered Black Rhino.
The Victoria Falls are among the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The Zambezi River, which is more than 2 km wide at this point, plunges noisily down a series of basalt gorges and raises an iridescent mist that can be seen more than 20 km away. The fragile ecosystem of the riverine rainforest within the waterfalls splash zone is also of particular interest.
The aim of the volunteer project is the preservation of Victoria Falls as one of the most important natural heritage sites. The landscape here is majestic, with fjord after fjord, towering above shore and sea, each and every fjord has its own distinctive character and tiny fishing villages nestle at their foot. It is an ideal place for hikers and all nature lovers, in summer and winter alike. Seals bask on the rocks, huge colonies of seabirds are seen and the king of the skies, the white-tailed eagle may be watching over.
The project will mainly take place in Nupur which used to be a boarding school in the past but now it is a hotel and a University. The cozy school buildings are surrounded by beautiful mountains with a view over the Alps of Westfjords and the blue seas of Dyrafjordur.
The area around Nupur is ideal to get to know the Icelandic nature. You can take a walk to Skrudur, the oldest botanic gardens in Iceland or hike in the mountains. The area has a great variety of birds and footpaths for those who are interested in Icelandic wild life.
The purpose of this project is to improve the skills of the participants to capture their memories in an unforgettable way. We will learn how to think about landscape photography from capture to finished image, your ability to create dramatic compositions will become more effortless and you'll learn about what might be holding you back from reaching your full potential as a photographer. We will also make some videos during those two weeks.
In this project, you'll learn how to better express your vision and how to digitally optimize your images in such a way that anyone who views it will be attracted to the same qualities that drew you into the scene. We will work with different themes from day to day and every evening we will watch the photos together to evaluate the work. In the end of the project, we will put up an exhibition in a public place. The project will be leaded by an experienced photographer.
You should bring your cameras with you to the project.
We will also do some environmental work in the area during the project, for example cleaning the coastline and working in the green areas.

The pagoda is now a place of charity for unlucky children and also helps treat diseases. Now, the pagoda is taking care and bringing up more than 200 children in the South of Vietnam. The children here have unfortunate backgrounds as many have been abandoned by their parents and relatives. The head monk sometimes receives phone calls from hospitals requesting him to take in abandoned babies. At the moment, about 200 children are living in the Pagoda, their ages ranging from 5 days old to 40 years old. 90 of these are orphans that are suffering from cerebral-palsy, blindness or Down's syndrome. At present, about 30-40 local children have a chance to study at Ky Quang as some local teachers teach Vietnamese for them in the morning.
Volunteers will spend time with the children and help improving their English, organizing games and other activities for them. I have paid $500 dollars using several CL mechanics. One took my money ..and NEVER replaced the fuel pump.
He stole the money..and returned it in simply awful, horrendouscondition. The last one did repair the fuel pump, then a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, created by first mechanic, who screwed up the timing. A formerly decent running 89 Mercury Cougar has turned into a living nightmare

Today, I pick up car and it started smoking on the inside of car 4 miles down road. I'm told by some car gurus across the street from my office, that the drive shaft is rubbling on top of the exhaust flange, like a 'lathe' they tell me muffler or cats could be clogged

The exhaust was NOT positioned right when the mechanic put it back together. This car was running GREAT before the fuel pump going out

Is there the small likelyhood that same Christian or decent man who owns a muffler shop, could help out a fellow human being?

I have very little money left...and now a huge problem.. I cant get to work and am jeopardy of losing my job.

Is there anyone...a DO GOODER...church, or someone benevolent who can help me? Even a legal Pay Plan..I'll sign gladly

I have just enough for parts. I've never, EVER been this low on money....the car repairs, delays from these guys, plus my cab rides while trying to fix this 'non shop' have cost me $900. I'm simply nearly tapped out...and frankly, my legs are numb from the pressure and horror of dealing with these people. I have no family in the area. Please help or pass this along to someone who could help, if you know such a person/company

Frankly, I'm very concerned of losing my $40,000 job over this. I'm a GOOD honest guy...whose inside of a living nightmare. I wforould be grateful your help and compassion...as difficult as this is for me to ask. A church, private shop, anyone with any car fixing programs such as trade schools' preferably a real muffler shop owned by an honest man.
I'm driving home tonight with a fire extinguisher given to me by the car gurus (they build custom cars)...as a precaution against a fire
Thanks in advance

I am a singer, in particular a singer of traditional Irish folk songs, and I know around 30 by heart, I sing around the metroplex, most often A Cappella. I am currently in between jobs and have a little free time occasionally and wanted to offer my services to anyone who thinks that they know someone who is in need and would be comforted by me singing to them, or reading to them. The songs I sing are story based, so it is a bit like musical story-telling. I will send my music website if you would like. I do not have much free time to speak of, but I would be glad to stop by somewhere to sing for an hour a couple of times a week during the day.

In the summer, you can sit by the harbour at midnight and watch the sun dip slightly below the horizon before it makes its way up again.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The volunteers will be hosted by the City of Reykjavik and their task is to help the local authorities to make the city center a better place to stay. The group will clean tags, paint old houses and will also work in the green areas in Öskjuhlíð and Elliðaárdalur. We will also clean the coastline in the city area.
Project language: English
Age range: 18 and over

More information and enrollment: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-iceland.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please go to: www.cadip.org or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

 May 14 - August 7, 2010
August 12 - November 5, 2010

The Community Library project was initiated as a response to the need in the Chamazi community, especially among young people and students, to access books for various uses including reference, text and even entertainment. The library project was then established to provide these services, including providing information of concern to young people about current issues in the form of brochures, books, magazines, videos, etc. The project site, which is still under construction, is also expecting to have an Internet café to offer access to information for youth and the entire community.
The Community Library is located in Chamazi area, near Dar es Salaam. The community is surrounded by six public and private schools with a big population of young people. Young people are lacking information about health issues, especially malaria and HIV/AIDS, and also about other opportunities available in the country. Poverty is very visible in this community.
Volunteers will be working in the library to assist other staff in receiving, issuing, shelving and stocking books. Volunteers are expected to support the marketing of the Library, fundraising, and identification of possible interested organizations to provide useful periodicals, journals, and books related to the needs of the users in the community.
Working hours are Monday to Friday for six hours a day. The library will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Special requirements: Volunteers on this project must be independent and able to work with less supervision and sometimes under pressure. No specific skills are required, but the volunteers should have an interest in education, and in working with young people and children.
Duration of the project: The middle-term volunteer projects have a minimum duration of four weeks (one month) and a maximum duration of twelve weeks (three months). Starting dates are fixed, while the end will be determined by the time available for each volunteer. Music, education and cultural exchange program for Korean children
Samcheok, Gangwon
June 2 - August 20, 2010
September 1 - November 26, 2010

Samcheok is a city of tourism with beautiful beaches and a cave. But the standard of living is poor and especially, education facilities are not enough for the local community. The host organization is a local church and they run local children's center to provide educational and cultural opportunities to children. They offer not only studying with books but also various extracurricular activities to them. Musical team and Korean traditional music performance team, which are particular offering of this center, perform a road show for local people. The host wants to give the kids an intercultural experience through the volunteers' participation. You can also feel the typical warmth and kindness of rural Korean community.

Volunteer work: Together with Korean volunteer(s), the international participants will organize and manage cultural and education programs such as foreign languages (mainly English), outdoor activities, etc. for the children who attend the local Children's Center. The children at the center are mainly elementary school students and few middle school students. They normally stay at the center after school, from 2 pm until around 8 pm.
Any kind of activities and ideas are welcome, as long as they provide the local children with opportunities for cultural exchange. The local children are very open and interested about the different countries in the world.

Lost Paws Rescue of Texas (http://www.lostpawsrescueoftexas.org/) is a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization in the Dallas, TX area, and all of our staff are volunteers who strive to help the animals in our communities that can't help themselves. Through donations and volunteer support, we hope to be able to help as many animals in need as possible!

Our mission is to provide temporary shelter, food, medical attention, and comfort to abandoned, neglected and injured animals; to seek responsible, loving homes for them, and to educate the public about the humane care of animals with a goal of reducing overpopulation.

Due to the economy our donations have decreased, yet we are faced with acquiring many animals given up to shelters due to their owners no longer being able to afford food/care for their animals. Our animals stay with foster families until they find their "furrever home". All of our animals are up to date on all vaccinations and are spayed and/or neutered.

Want to help but don't know what you can do? Contact us, we can find a way to utilize your natural talent. We are seeking volunteers to help us with:

-Weekend adoptions events (petting and holding the animals to get them use to physical contact, meeting with prospective adopters, adoption paperwork)
-Increasing our presence on social media tools (such as Facebook/Twitter)
-Assisting with marketing/advertising/communications
-Obtaining company sponsorships/donations
-Stopping by during the week to play with our kitties that stay at PetSmart
-Weekly laundry help
-Fundraising events
-Animal transport (to/from doctors appts or adoption events)
-Assistance in adding more vet clinics to our group of supporters
-Friday night set-up before adoption event
-Photographer to capture the personality of our adoptable pets
-Volunteer Coordinator
-Content writer(s) for Bios on Petfinder or for other events (Journalist/Marketing specialists)
-Checking general Voicemails/Emails
-Help review and edit recipes submitted for our LostPaws cookbook
-Dog Bathing before Adoption Events
-Foster Compound Improvements (mowing, painting, cleaning yard)

We also welcome being "adopted" by community groups to assist us with dog/cat supply drives (e.g. food, litter).

Additionally (and extremely important) - we always need responsible, loving folks to "foster" our available cats/dogs to help ready them for permanent adoptive homes.

Our adoption events are held every Saturday at the PetSmart located at 635 and MacArthur in Irving, Texas, from 11 am to 4pm.

If you are interested in volunteering in ANY capacity please email us at lostpawsrescueoftexas@yahoo.com or go to our website and contact us online:
