Literally, the park could not function without it's volunteers.
The recent budget issues that have become so prominent in our minds have only made this even more true.

There is a whole array of tasks which you could do at the Park. And there is also a wide variety of amounts of time that would be useful.
We can use your help on a regular, scheduled basis, or even just sporadically, at occasional events as they come up during the year.

Here is a list of many but not all of the tasks we do as volunteers.

Behind the scenes - indoors
o Clean Aquarium Glass
o Prepare Fish Food (cut and peel shrimp
o Light Housekeeping of the Exhibit Hall (vacuumingsteps, cobwebs, dusting blinds, windows)
o Volunteer Reporters-write nature/environmental stories for the volunteer newsletter
o Art Gallery Volunteer

Behind the scenes - outdoor
o Sell plants at our annual native plant sale
o Scrub canoes and kayaks
o Repair of Canoes and Kayaks
o Trail Monitor Volunteers (periodically walk trails together and report conditions)

Front desk help
o Exhibit Hall Front Desk Assistance
o Visitor Center Front Desk Assistance

Tours and Guides
o Weekend Fish Feeding Program Volunteer
o Hike Leaders
o Group Tour Docents for student tours

High School students can earn their community service hours.
Seniors can meet new friends while getting some exercise.

Avail yourself of the opportunity to meet new friends, give back to the community and enjoy Florida's great outdoors.
I have been a volunteer at West Lake Park for over ten years. This has provided me with much more than a very satisfying opportunity to put back into the community.
It has given me a chance to enjoy the natural setting of the Park which is a great antidote to the hectic life that is South Florida.
And it has given me a chance to meet like minded people.
Since I moved to Florida twelve years ago, most of the people that I now consider my friends, I met through being a volunteer at the park.

John C Lewis; vice president, West Lake Park Volunteers, Friends of Anne Kolb Nature Center

Stop by the Anne Kolb Nature Center Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature. The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides.
In this time of the year when conditions are favorable you can see the Northern lights (Aurora borealis) glowing curtain of greenish yellow lights, dancing in the distance to a spectacular, multi-colored fusion stretching across the sky.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The international volunteers will visit kindergartens in Reykjavik and introduce different cultures to the kids. One of the tasks of this workcamp is to prepare games, songs and materials for those visits and we kindly ask the participants to bring materials that we can use for the preparation. It is mainly funded by the Central Java department of health and closely cooperates with the statutory health services and the Faculty of Medicine of the Diponegoro University. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff , particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable.
The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc. The volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future.
