Instrumental band playing original music searching for a devoted professional drummer for recordings and gigging.
Must be able to handle odd-time signatures, be creative and open-minded, and must LOVE the music.

If you're looking for a musical challenge, and want to take part in creating innovative music that appeals to both musicians and music lovers, then please contact us.

Knowledge of various styles (Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Irish, Funk, Metal and what not) is a plus.
Playing percussion instruments as well as a basic drum set would be perfect.
Any nationality is welcome.

At the moment the band (based in Kanagawa) consists of bass, guitar and saxophone, and we're looking to possibly add a violin or another melodic instrument (perhaps flute).
Right now, after a lot of hard work, we have a list of 9-10 songs, most of which still need a bit of work to finish them. I'm a pro level multi-instrumentalist, heavily on Saxophones & EWI, Keyboard, Guitar, Drums and Bass. I also use MC-808's and SP-555.

My aim is to start an electronic/semi-acoustic Acid-jazz band in style of Morten Schantz, Jamiroquai (Their old stuff), Nils Landgren & Funk Unit, Jojo Mayer, Alex Argento and the Brecker Bros.(Some elements of Fusion/Rock OK)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRuJz8fY6Js
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXyB12Okt68&feature=related
http://www.myspace.com/alexargento (Check out the EGO Medley, first segment)

What I would like to have in this band is foremost some "gear-head" keyboardist, with good jazz-voicing and chops. Would be able to do "unison" melodies with other instruments as well. You should be able to trigger samples and loops as well coming up with new interesting ways to sound cool. Not only do I ask for E-pianos or regular sound. More electronic oldschool single lead in the sound like moogs.

The drummer, should be technical ofcourse, on time, groovy and given the opportunity to solo, break-beats. I would think that the songs could have a mix approach from latin to drum'n'bass flavor sometimes. But for now, heavy cool funky drums. There will be times we will have to play a "unison" solo with all the instruments. That will be the highlight of some songs. A good team-player and versatile. Real drums or V-drums, whatever feels good for you.

Guitarists are like flies close to dogshit. They circle around to find the best piece or they circling around all over the place. If I would play saxophone in the band, guitarist could do that too, imagine Mike Stern and Michael Brecker together, dubbing melodies. Or even better, if the keyboard player just plays pads, we will need a guitarist to "scratch" the guitar. The guitarist should be comfortable in both grooving and soloing and playing unison. Should not be afraid to experiment with new interesting sounds. We don't want the standard stuff! This is our "playground!"

Bass player is the fundamental glue together with the drums. You should be able to pick up cool grooves, syncopicate beats together with the drummer and "harmonize" with the chord-structure of the keyboard player and the guitarist. Would be able to play certain lines in unison with the rest of the band as well. Your blend of Funk-bass and latin is a welcome. Could also be able to use some effects like ring-modulator pedal for those cool drum'n'bass passages. 3 playing-style are essential, finger, slap and tap! (synthbass keyboard players are also welcomed!)

"beat+maker", or "noise" person. You could be a DJ or a sample-artist, to create a supportive "drive" to the drummer. You will be able to manipulate sound, even to be able to "sample" us live and "chop-us up"! You will be in charge of the general mix, plus, you will be able to be creative with filter-sweeps, FXs, triggering samples and loops. You will supply us with interesting beats and loops that we can create ideas from. The drummer must be tight to play together with a backing track like that. Your job is to find cool "percussive" loops that could enhance the feeling that we have a band of percussionists. You could also be a "laptop" user of Ableton LIVE for this purpose as well. Gear that works well could be MC-808's, Korg ES1X etc. You could build up the imitation of a VINYL record that you could scratch around with as well. This position requires good "taste" and timing.
The noise person will also make sure that there are no "dead-spots" between each song, clearing up space like a solo-number meanwhile the keyboard player is looking for his next preset. I wouldn/t mind having a scratch-artist as well.

A musical "SOUND-ENGINEER". You will be the Sound-Engineer and have good knowledge of mixing in this territory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf3fpULe6Ig&feature=related check this clip around 4 minutes. The mixer will be your "instrument".

Additional instrumentalist wanted if possible:

Trombone player
Trumpet player
Tenor Sax
Flute
EWI players
Guest rappers (not vocalists)

All these players must have good phrasing (Jazz style) and good ear.

All people in the band will memorize the songs/grooves without score. In that way we will look professional and we will have more fun on stage.

Now I'm looking for the core members: Keyboardplayer(s) (2 could be nice!), Guitarist, Bass, Drums, DJ & Noise. The core would be 7 members atleast.

The idea could sound like this. Structured written arrangements or Improvised numbers but with a clear groove to give it an impression that it is "rehearsed".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf3fpULe6Ig&feature=related (Jojo Mayer, Prohibited Beats)

Write back if you think this is your "shit". =)

Daso is a singer/songwriter from NYC doing what he calls "Afro Caribbean Soul" music. A mix of latin roots music from Puerto Rico such as Afro Rythms Like Bomba and Spaniard influences of Plena, Musica Jibara which is folk music from PR and touch of African Rythnms, Rythm and Blues, Roots Reggae and a taste of hip hop. This mix comes from many experiences growing up in New York City and Puerto Rico. As a child my mom traveled back and forth alot from New York to Puerto Rico and I had alot of exposure to the street life and the music of both worlds "Says David Soto" who is now performing as "Daso". Daso created his band "El Grupo Cemi" the name which he inherited from his mother Angie who brought music of culture to inner city kids in NYC. His most recent project "Vision" is just an expression of what Daso has experienced over the years and the sounds that capture those times (70's to 2010).

In 2007, Daso founded the New Village Music Festival. The "NVMF" is a Free outdoor music festival that shows the diversity of latino music and New York's Music Scene. New York's Hottest Fusion Festival. I dream to take this festival around the world.

Daso is looking for supporters, musicians, community organizers etc to join in this musical revolution. If anyone is intersted in booking Daso and his band or interested in helping us bring this music festival to their town please contact us. This is a great opportunity to have a musical exchange of cultures and diversity through art. A great place for artists to promote their brand and merchandise. Also a way to highlight the importance of cultural arts programs for children.

See:

www.Myspace.com/Daso
www.NVmusicFest.com
www.Myspace.com/NewVillageMusicFestival
www.Youtube.com/Dasomonster

Contact Daso
917-582-2431
Dasoline@aol.com
