The town itself is a residential community located less than 5 minutes from Na'alehu in the Ka'u district of the Big Island which is approximately 1 hour from Kailua-Kona and 45 minutes from Hilo. Local attractions include a nearby golf course, Big Island's only local winery, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach (Turtle Beach), Green Sands Beach (one of only two green sand beaches in the world), Volcano National Park, as well as several restaurants, galleries, and farmer's markets. The nearest beach is less than 10 minutes away and several hiking trails are walking-distance.
