<![CDATA[US for OKINAWA, a peace action network formed by U.S. and other citizens from around the world living in Japan, is working to raise awareness of the enormous (and unnecessary) environmental destruction U.S. military bases are having on Okinawa. From April 1-4 of this year, we will travel to Ginowan City, which has a huge Marine air base right in the middle of the city, and meet with the mayor who has long been calling for it to be closed because of the danger it poses to Ginowan residents. We will also travel to Henoko, Okinawa, where a beautiful bay that is home to the dugong (manatee like gentle sea mammal) is being targeted for inundation for the construction of a new air base. The U.S. military already occupies approximately 20% of Okinawa and has destroyed much of its precious biodiversity. Help us stop it from consuming more by joining us on this awareness-raising trip. Costs are borne by each participant, but being kept to a strict minimum.]]>
